Nine months had passed, and Carmen had given birth to a beautiful baby girl. The two named their daughter Amelia, after Carmen's late mother. Amelia had beautiful blonde hair, just like Carmen's mother did. By no means did Carmen get a fairy tale ending like she always dreamed of, but she still got a happy ending nonetheless. Carmen finally got to live the human life that she had wanted for so long.

Carmen and Thomas stayed together until Carmen had died from natural causes. She died peacefully in her sleep with her loving husband at her side. After she had died, Thomas never remarried. He decided to spend his days with their children, who grew up to do great things. Thomas ended up turning them both so that they could live for eternity together. Nobody ever knew how it was possible for Carmen to get pregnant with their daughter. It had defied the rules of the universe, but they didn't complain. They were happy that their dream finally came true.

Luckily, Amelia and Samuel were good children. They didn't make the same mistakes that Carmen had made. Sure, they had accidentally killed a few people while learning how to control their hunger, but that was normal for every vampire. Being a vampire came with the baggage of dealing with a few bodies.

Carmen didn't have the perfect life. In fact, her life was far from perfect. She never got a chance to know her mother, and her father was a raging alcoholic. Alcohol had changed him so dramatically, Carmen felt like she didn't really know him at all either. She went through things that nobody should ever have to deal with, but in the end, it made her stronger. It made her a better person. It taught her lessons that she was able to pass onto her children and if it was possible for her children to have children, then those lessons would be passed on to their children. She made sure that her husband was a better dad to their children than her father ever was to her. That was her only wish before she died. Even though Carmen was dead, her memory lived on through her children, and that's what kept Thomas going. That's what kept Thomas living. That's what kept him from giving up all hope, all desire to live. Even though Carmen wasn't immortal, her children were. And that was plenty for him. They all had each other, and that was all that mattered.
