I heard someone walking up the stairs. David opened the door.
"Leo, Chris, I need to talk to you," he said.
"I'm sorry," I said. "I get it, I was out of line."
"That's not what I want to talk about," he said. "Well, it kind of is. Just talk to me. Both of you."
Leo turned around to look at David.
"I know this is harder for the both of you than the rest of us," David said. "I just want to make sure that you're both okay. And I want the truth. Especially from you Chris."
"I don't know," I said.
"What do you mean?"
"Like you said, it's hard," I said. "She was my best friend."
"Leo," David said. "You haven't said anything."
Leo just looked at David.
"Please say something."
Leo turned back around against the wall, saying nothing.
"Is there sonething I could do?" David asked.
"No," I said. "There's nothing. Unless you can raise the dead and bring Max back."
I turned around against the wall as well.
"I'm sorry," I said. "I tried."
"Tried to what?" David asked.
"To hold it in," I said. "To be happy. But how can I be happy?"
"No one was expecting you to be happy," he said. "Everyone knew how close you were to Max. Everyone was expecting you to grieve."
"Exactly," I said. "I don't want to be seen that way."
"What way?"
"Just never mind. It's too hard to explain," I said.
"Well, when your ready, feel free to come back down," he said.
"I don't think I will."
"It's your choice," he said. "You don't have too."
He walked out and closed the door.
I can't show my face down there again. Not after my blow up. Even though that guy deserved it. He actually deserved a lot more in my opinion, but now wasn't the time and place to do that.
If one more person decides to tell me how sorry they are or what a nice girl she was, I will not hesitate to throw some punches.
I just don't want to be here anymore. Not without Max.
But I can't leave Leo here all alone. He's just as hurt as I am. Who knows what would happen if he lost another one of us.
I mean all we need is time right? And then the hurting will stop? We'll be fine.
Who am I kidding, no we won't.This is our sister. We can't just get over her. What kind of family would we be to just forget about her like that?
How could I move on?
