The white abyss around me is so heavenly yet tensing.
The blonde knight has his sword drawn and is ready to strike. The girl looks up showing her watery grey eyes. They seemed so life less. Her hair had moved, revealing the body's face. His lips curved into a smile and yet tears stain his cheeks. His lifeless eyes are two different colors, one black the other a piercing shade of green.
The blonde knight's icy glare found its target. He lets out a loud battle cry. His movements are quick and he makes no hesitation to charge. I shut my eyes hoping it ends quickly. I hear his sword swiftly cut through the air.His battle cry is cut short, and he starts to cough. I open my eyes to see the scene before me.
The knights sword is in the side of the girls neck, a tar-like substance trickles out and down her chest. The knight is coughing up blood, his face is pale, and his icy glare has faded. The girl slowly reaches up at the sword, and pushes it out of her neck. More of the substance gushes out.
"Y-You...Demon...y-you took it..."he says, coughing up more blood. Black markings covered the Knights arms and legs . The knight falls to his knees using his sword to hold himself up. The girls eyes widen, she reaches toward the knight with one arm and pulls the corps closer with the other. The knight flinches back, the skin covered by the markings start to become translucent. The girl's eyes start to water and her arm outstretches as far as it can.
"Chase...please...don't leave me alone." She says. My eyes go wide and I examine the knight...blonde hair, icy blue eyes, pale skin, even his protective attitude it's just like Chase, all of it. His expression softens, he reaches for her hand, and they pull each other into an embrace.
"I-I never thought he would give it up...especially at a time like this...Kimberly...I'm sorry...I would stay...but you and I both know that the moment my blade touched your skin...I would slowly start to wither away." Chase says, a painful smile spread across his face. I knew that girl seemed familiar, the grey eyes, milky white skin, and midnight black hair gave it away.
"No! Chase please don't go...I can't do this alone." She says, squeezing him tighter. I see a slight smile on Chase's face as the black markings spread to the rest of his body, completely covering his skin. Tears stream down their cheeks, as Chase's body reduces to nothing more than a shimmery essence. Kimberly's arm falls to her side and she turns her attention back to the body.
"I hope you're happy...We won you know...there weren't that many casualties...only the hundreds of innocent solders we slaughtered, and of coarse their king....Chase died too, well I guess that was after the fact that we won, so he doesn't count...Oh and how could I forget the two other lives that were lost...one was mine of coarse...and the other was...no one special," she says sarcastically her eyes start to water, "I mean he was only the craziest guy I knew..." she stops, her eyes stream more tears. The tears gently fall on the corpse's face.
The corpse starts to let off a green glow, coming from his heart. His black eye fades and is replaced with a glowing white light. Kimberly's eyes go wide, and the tears stop flowing from one eye, it's color fades and is replaced with the same glowing light.
Wind swirls around the two, like a crazy power up scene in a movie. Kimberly stands up in shock, and the wind becomes more powerful. Her eye glows brighter, while the corpse's seems to dim.
"No, No, NO! Not me! I can't do this!" She says, shaking her head and covering the glowing eye. The corpse's eye has become so dim it is barely glowing. Kimberly takes her hands off her eye, turning the black abyss around her into a bright abode. A moment later the light is gone, and so is the corpse.
Kimberly falls to her knees, the cut Chase made on her neck was gone and so were the other little cuts and bruises even her scars just seemed to have disappeared. The only scratch left was a large stab through the center of her torso, which seems recent.
The eye that was glowing starts turning darker shades of grey until it is black, like the corpse's. Now you can tell she is Kimberly.
She reaches for something on the floor where the corpse was at. She picks up a piece of paper and a black feather with a green tip. Kind of like Kimberly's note. She also reaches for Chase's sword which is lying only a few feet away.
She looks at her reflection in the blade, tears stream from her grey eye. She grabs the sword by the handle and stabs her thigh, making me flinch back.
She takes out the sword, the black substance covers the blade. The substance is also in her newly created wound.I hear a sizzling sound and the wounded area starts to seal itself back up. The sizzling continues, Kimberly looks to the side and picks up Chase's blade. It starts to steam, the tar begins to bubble and pop, and it slowly eats away at the shiny metal. Leaving half of the melted blade. Kimberly lets out a yell, and slowly falls to her knees.
"Why...Why did you do this to me...WHY DID YOU ABANDON ME?"
She yells"I can't run a kingdom alone...that wasn't the plan remember...you weren't supposed to DIE! JACKSON YOU BROKE YOUR PROMISE!" She yells again punching the ground. My eyes go wide. The corpse from before, the paintings and sketches, my wings...it all makes sense now...Chase and I were from her past and we broke a promise, but why did we come back?
My hands get sweaty and my blood turns cold just thinking of the possibilities. But one thought at the back of my head kept teasing me...could Kimberly have brought Chase and I back in search of revenge...or could it be something else.
