The Dead Are Walking

Chapter 11

Alicia's Pov

Did she try to kiss me before? I asked myself, thinking back to when she sung to me in my room.

We had been driving for a couple of hours now and the drive was getting uncomfortable. "We need to stop for the night" i said and looked up at the sky which was blackening by the second.

Elyza nodded and flashed her blinkers, signaling for Travis and madison to stop.

We came over to the side of the road and unbuckled.

We climbed out and grabbed a water bottle each from the back of the truck before walking over to my mom and travis.

"That Horde will be here in no time. We cant sleep for long" Travis said. "Few hours tops"

We nodded and walked back to the truck Elyza looked at me. "You and your brother take the bed in the back, ill sleep in the seat" she said and opened the door.

"No you take the back with Alicia" Nick said, stopping me. "Im gonna stay up for a while anyways...i dont sleep much anymore" he said and crawled into the front seat.

I shrugged at Elyza and together we crawled into the bed of the truck and laid down on the squishy matress. A few second later my mom came by, throwing a few pillows to us and a bunch of blankets.

I nodded my thanks and gave a pillow to Elyza and we each had two blankets. I closed my eyes, drifting into a deep sleep.

~few hours later~

"Nick drive!" I heard Elyza yelling and i tried to ignore it.

"Nick i cant get in the truck! You need to drive or your gonna get us all killed!" She screamed.

It wasnt until i heard the moaning that i snapped my eyes open and jolted awake.

The truck was completly surrounded by dozens and dozens of walkers, all trying to climb their way into the bed of the truck and smashing themselves into the sides.

I heard my mom shouting from the car. I couldnt hear her but i motioned with my hand for them to go. "We will catch up!" I screamed.

They nodded and gave me a sad thumbs up before speeding down the road. We wernt going to waste bullets on this big a horde.

"Nick!" I yelled over the moans to get his attention. "Nick its okay" i said reasuring him. I saw him stop shaking. "Nick its okay to be scared. But if you want to live, you need to turn on the engine and drive" i said.

He stared at me for a few moments in the rearview mirror before nodding and hesitantly turning on the engine.

After a few minutes of it turning over, the engine finally roared to life and Nick slammed the gas sending me and Elyza smashing into the side of the truck. We laid there for a few moments, waiting for our bodies to get used to the speed before we sat up and looked around.

"Where did they go?" Elyza whispered to me.

I looked around. They were nowhere to be seen. I looked behind us, the walkers were coming at us but we were going a lot faster then they were so they quickly dissapeared from our view.

"Nick stop the truck!" I yelled to him and the truck slowed down to a stop. Me and Elyza quickly jumped into the front seats and Nick went back into the back seat.

"Headlights?" Elyza said and i nodded, "yeah it should be okay"

We followed the long old road for what seemed like hours on end but we never came across my mom and Travis. By now i had lost all hope. "Maybe they turned off somewhere?" Elyza said, looking around.

I shook my head, "there was no turn offs. If they turned then it was off road" i whispered.

Elyza sighed and pulled the truck off to the side of the road. "2am" she said looking at the time on the cars dash. "Lets get some more sleep"

I turned my head to look at the back seat. Nick was passed out. I nodded to her and we got out and climed into the bed.

We got under the blankets and turned on our sides so that we were facing eachother.

"You've come a long way from the girl who locked me up in her basement" i whispered to her.

She smirked. "I suppose so"

"Can you braid my hair like that?" I asked.

She smiled and ran her fingers over her braids. "There called trikru braids" she said. "Millions of years ago trikru ruled a part of the earth and they were always battling with the other clans. They did their hair like this so it would never get in their eyes and disrupt their battling" she said.

I smiled. "You know a lot about history" i said.

"My mother loved history. Thats the only thing my father ever told me about her. Our house was filled with books about the past" she smiled and put her hand out, grabbing a strand of my hair and feeling it. "You will look awesome with these braids" she smirked and took her hand back.

We laid there for a few minutes just watching eachother before Elyza slightly leaned in. She looked at my eyes, looking for any signs before she leaned in further and connected our lips.

At first i was surprised. I never thought she would actually kiss me, nor did i think i would want it. But as we laid here, our lips connected, something came over me and i felt myself kissing her back.

I pulled away suddenly and stared at her in the eyes. I instantly thought back to when we talked about that book. "Eyes as green as earth and eyes as blue as the sky." i whispered to her.

She smirked and nodded. "Where the earth and the sky collide"
