Freedom; Everyone Deserves it

Although it is every kid's dream to become famous, the path to fame for korean idols is filled with many restrictions. In order to become famous and have their names put out there, they give up the one things that matters most: freedom. Frankly, many people give up their rights to entertain the media and the world. They practically sold themselves and everything that they have to these companies in order to become who they are today. Korean idols are humans too; they have feelings. They are forced to be "fixed" if they are not good enough and take extreme measures such as not eating for days. These people deserve to have their rights given back to them. They deserve to choose what happens to them; not become a puppet for their master.

Just like everyone else, kpop idols are humans too. They laugh, they smile, and even cry. A sad and tragic car accident occurred to korean girl group, Ladie's Code on September 3, 2014. One member, Eunb had passed at the scene while two members of the five, RiSe and Sojung were left badly injured. Both girls went for a surgery and one of them (RiSe) underwent "a total of four surgeries".(Hellokpop) Sojung was in better condition but was unaware of the funeral held two days after the death of of her member, Eunb. Two days after the funeral, RiSe unfortunately died since the damage done was too great. It was an extremely devastating time for the group as many tears had been shed. Other idols had empathized with them since they had also seen the deceased members shortly before the accident. These idols are scared of what some fans do to them. In 2015, a korean boy group, BTS had unexpectedly cancelled a concert and a fan meet because a group member (Rap Monster) received death threats. An account on Twitter posted a picture of a gun with a caption saying, "Just brought my gun it's about to go down RIP namjoon. #TRBinNYC" (Kpopstarz) There are many incidents where kpop idols do embarrassing things. They are not all serious but are more hilarious to be exact. On Twitter, idols post funny looking pictures of their members. For their birthdays, the members use ugly pictures and expose them online, like what normal people do. Korean idols are just like us. Yes, they make mistakes, but they are able to handle them very professionally.

Korean idols are forced to be "fixed" if they are not perfect. These agencies, make the idols diet. If an idol is not considered skinny, the company will make him/her diet in order to lose weight. The media and pressure of everyone else creates an expectation of how a kpop idol should look like. These idols are terribly overworked. Their schedule is always packed with fan meets, performances and other things. Sometimes they even have four to five events booked for one day. When they do not have anything planned for the day, practice in the company to perfect themselves even more. The world demands too much from these humans. They think that no matter how much they ask from these entertainers, they will be the same. The world does not realize how tired these idols get and how much an insult impacts them. When haters hate on these idols, they become even more self-conscious than they already are and work twice as hard to please the haters. For example the uprising kpop boy group, BTS had a member that ended up losing his abs causing many fans to leave the fandom. (Geminotic Alliance) The member, Jimin apologized to the fans for upsetting them and letting his fans down. He cares a lot about his fans and his self-confidence is very low. He is practicing all the time so he can be better in hopes that he will not be a burden to his group. There is always going to be haters. They say whatever they want online because they know that they cannot be tracked down. Korean celebrities are forced to undergo plastic surgery. Some companies make the idols have nose jobs or go for double-eyelid surgery. In korea, double-eyelids are considered very beautiful. These idols cannot say no because their contract with the agency will end. Kpop idols should not be forced to do things under their own will in order to stay in the entertainment business.

These people should have their rights given back to them. Fans should be considerate of the idols. They should respect them and give them space. Fans will do anything to grab the attention of their idols. For example, a fan cut out "I <3 EXO"on their arm and posted it online in hopes that it would be seen by their idols. (kpoptreats) Fans should not have to go to the extent of harming themselves just to get noticed. Kpop idols will remember the fan as the one who cut themselves. These people are considered as saesangs. (overly obsessed fans) Korean idols should be able to text and call their friends and family more often. When these idols sign their contract with their agencies, they cannot date, their phones are confiscated and their social media accounts are deactivated. They should have contact with their friends and family; not be locked up like prisoners. Kpop idols should be allowed to go out and do whatever they want like a normal person does. These idols cannot go out without having to wear disguises and avoid being ambushed by fans and the paparazzi. They always have to be cautious of what they do because the media always turns it into something ugly. Korean idols cannot show any emotions or their true feelings to the public. They have to show the public that they are okay and nothing is wrong when that is all a lie.

Korean idols should not have their lives being controlled by these agencies. They are living beings like everyone else on this planet. They are forced to "fix" themselves when they are "not good enough". Also they need to have their rights back like every human should. Many idols have tried to leave their agencies because they could not handle the stress and the life of being an idol. Who would want to live like this. They become an object for others to use. They lose their dignity and the identity of who they were before becoming an idol.
