Chapter 8

Mackenzie's POV

It is Friday today and all I can think about this morning is the weekend. I was not really looking forward to seeing Hope today, since what happened yesterday. I try and brush it off but sometimes it consumes my mind with wonder.

Once I get to school I feel very uncomfortable, ever since yesterday morning people have been staring at me. I don't like to have a lot of attention, unlike her.

My first class is science and I love my teacher, she is really nice to me. When Mrs. Dean starts talking I try as hard as I could to focus, but I can't.

"So today class we are going to talk about your new project that we will be starting today....."

As she starts talking I zone out and start thinking about Brandon. I don't really have crushes that often, because all the guys at my school are douche bags. But Brandon was different, he was smart, funny, nice, and it seems like he really cares about me. But I have a lot of trust issues, especially with guys.

It's mainly because my dad promised that he would always be here, with me.....always. But he broke that promise when after my mom and him broke up he didn't even call or message me. It was like he was ignoring me, and I have never seen him since.

But I just go throughout the day very oblivious to what's going on. I am just going through the motions today.

When I go into the lunchroom everyone stops what they are doing and stares at me. You could hear a pin drop in that room. I slowly walk towards my lunch table, and once I sit down everyone starts talking again and goes about their lives.

I'm all alone today because Destiny is sick and Brandon is sitting at a table With his new friends. I am happy that he is making new friends, but I also need him here to tell me everything is going to be okay.

When I see Hope walking towards me I know I'm in trouble. I gulp my food down and prepare to hear her insults.

She comes up to me with a smug look in her face. As she sits down, she is careful not to mess up her skirt.

"So do you remember yesterday when Brandon pulled you aside and talked to you and said he will always be here for you."

"Yeah." I said, I was kind of confused because I didn't know where she was going with this.

"Well what he said was a lie, he didn't mean anything he said. He asked me on a date and I said yes. He told me how he was just being your friend because he felt sorry for you." At first I didn't believe her, but the more I heard her the more I believed it.

"I don't believe you." I lied, I just wanted to get more information out of her. I can tell when she is lying and when she isn't.

"Well I have proof, he texted me saying everything that I just said to you." She hands me her phone, and sure enough she is telling the truth.

I look down at the texts and my heart breaks. I don't know why I feel this way, it's not like he was my boyfriend. I don't know maybe I have feelings for him, I never know how I feel especially about boys.

When I get off the bus I run into my room. Once I opened the door, I slammed it and slid down onto the floor. I just started to bawl and I really didn't know why.

I think that it was not only because Brandon went on a date with Hope, he can go out with whoever he wants. But I think that it was mainly because he said that he would always be here, and he's not.

Whenever I like someone, and really care for them this always happens. They just leave and go out with the popular people and never talk to me again. It's sad really, but it has never gotten to me before.

I just start to listen to music, because it calms me down. As I'm listening to music my eyelids started to get heavy. Before I knew it I was going into a deep sleep.
