Mackenzie's POV

The morning goes by really slowly. I think the universe is trying to kill me. Slowly...

We are at lunch and I notice that Brandon is not at lunch. This was a good thing for me because I can't face him right now.

Destiny immediately comes over to me, she looks kind of worried.

"Hey so do you want to talk about what happened this morning?" She asked me, not taking her eyes away from mine.

"Uh yeah I guess." I said uncertain, just then I see the person that I didn't want to see today. Brandon...

Destiny looked at me, then at Brandon, and gave me a look that said I will talk to you later. She knew that I was uncomfortable talking about this in front of him, or anyone for that matter.

-

After school I am completely alone in the house. My mom is still at work and doesn't get out of work until later. In her case 3 in the morning, probably drinking the night away. Like usual.

I do my homework quickly so I don't have to do it later. I decide to text Destiny, but I don't really know what to say.

After what happened today, I don't know where to start. Usually I don't have to think about saying anything to my best friend, but this is different. I don't know, I just feel alone right now. I don't have any siblings, I have a alcoholic mother, and I only have 1 friend.

I finally text her and try to make as simple as possible.

Hey can you come over? In not even two seconds I hear my phone go off again.

I'll be right there.

-

I hear the doorbell ring and I quickly run to the door. I open the door and she immediately engulfs me in a hug. She always tells me that it's going to be okay, but sometimes I don't believe her.

"What's going on?" She asks being sincere. To be honest I don't really know. My life is a big blur right now.

"Yesterday my mom was drinking, and she yelled at me." I didn't know what else to say, but I couldn't look at her or else I would start crying.

"Did she hit you?"

"No which was weird, I thought she would but she didn't even touch me."

"Did she say something that hurt you?" I didn't want to tell her what my mom said about her but I had too. She was my best friend, she deserves to know. I have to be honest with her.

"Yeah she did." She nodded telling me to go on. I just broke down, and started crying. She just held me in her arms and didn't say anything for a while.

"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I won't pressure you into telling me." This is what I loved about her, she didn't pressure me into telling her something I didn't want to.

"No you need to know. She called you a slut, and I tried to defend you but she just yelled at me more. I'm really sorry." I started crying even more, I just couldn't hold it in anymore.

"It's okay, all I care about is you. What did she say about you?"

"She just called me a bitch, but she always calls me that. So don't worry about it."

"If you ever need to talk you know where to find me, okay?"

"Yeah okay. Thank you for always being here for me. Without you I don't know where I would be."

"I love you Mackenzie, and you deserve a lot. I can only be your friend right now, and I don't know if I'm doing a good job. But I am your friend for a reason, and I will always be here. I promise."

That's all that I need right now. I love my best friend.
