Chapter 9

Mackenzie's POV

I woke up startled, with my hands sweating and my breathing really heavy....nightmare. I don't usually get those but I couldn't concentrate on that, because my head was pounding.

I looked at my phone and it said 5:45. I am exhausted, but I can't go back to sleep. I decide to just stay up, as I look at my phone again I have several messages from Destiny.

From: Destiny
Hey! What's up I just wanted to know if you wanted to hang out or something. Okay text me when you get this! Bye! <3

From: Destiny
Hey are you okay? You didn't answer my first text, you usually do. Well I just want to know if you're okay. I love you!! <3

From: Destiny
Do you want me to come over? I can if you want?? Is it about Hope?? Or Brandon?? Please call or text me!!

I don't respond to any of them because I know she will think there's something wrong. She will probably end up coming over.

I am now starring at my ceiling and thinking about Hope and what she said. I really don't want to believe her, but some part of me believes her.

I looked over at my phone and saw that my phone said 7:15. I didn't realize that I have been staring at the ceiling for so long.

All of a sudden I hear my mom screaming. It sounded like she was talking on the phone. I didn't really care right now.

I didn't care if she was going to scream at me, or hit me. I just wanted to lay in my bed and think.

"Mackenzie go to the store and get some milk!!!" My mom yelled at me from downstairs.

I guess I will be getting out of bed after all. Well I have to go or else my mom will yell at me more, and I already have a headache.

"Okay" I yell down to her.

I get dressed and go downstairs I see her sitting in the dining room drinking a beer. She is smiling for once, and I don't know why.

"So you finally decided to get your ass up and listen to me for once." I just stare at her, I didn't want to get into a fight with her right now.

I walk out the door into the fresh air. I don't have a car because my mom took it away. So I end up walking, luckily for me the store is down the street.

When I get to the store I immediately see a familiar face. I didn't want them to see me so I covered my face with my hoodie and prayed to god that they didn't see me.

When I went into the milk isle I saw him. I didn't know if he saw me but I just wanted to get the milk and get out of there.

As I'm getting the milk he comes walking over to me.

"Hey I haven't seen you in a while. Are you okay?" He looked at me, but I couldn't look at him.

"Brandon what do you want?" I said very annoyed.

"I wanted to talk to you."

"Well I don't want to talk to you. All I want to do is get some milk okay, so can you please leave me alone?" I said while walking to the checkout area.

"Why are you mad at me? What did I do? Mackenzie please tell me." I just ignore him and kept walking.

I was at the checkout and I didn't want to make a scene so I pulled him aside.

"Is it true?" I asked with a serious look on my face.

"Is what true?" He asked looking clueless.

"Don't play dumb with me. I'm talking about you and Hope going on a date."

"What I never went on a date with her. What did she tell you?" He looked like he was mad, not at me but more at Hope.

"It doesn't matter what she said, it's over. I just wanted to know if it was true or not. I'm not in the mood to be lied to today." I tried to walk away but he spun me around.

"I really don't know what you're talking about-"

"Stop I said I don't want to hear it. I need to leave, I will see you Monday." I turned and walked away.

I could hear him muttering something but I didn't hear him.

I checked out and walked home again. I started to feel tears on my cheeks. I didn't even realize I started crying.

When I came home I put the milk in the fridge and ran up to my room. I did the only thing I had to do, I called my best friend.

When she picked up the phone I was so relieved.

"Hey! What's up?" She said excited to hear my voice.

"Uh something happened."
