Lena's POV
I woke up and saw the empty space next to me. I rolled out of bed and walked to my dresser. I grabbed a hair tie and put my long brown hair into a messy bun. I walked downstairs and saw Adam at the table, eating breakfast with the girls.
"Mommy!" Adalyn shouted when she saw me. "Hi baby," I said as I kissed her head. "Hi baby brother," Adalyn said before she kissed my stomach. "Hi babe," I said as I kissed Adam's cheek. "Good morning beautiful," Adam said as he pulled me onto his lap.
I looked over at Kennedy and she had a sour look on her face and she was just moving her fork around on her plate. "Kennedy, are you going to say hello to your mom?" Adam asked. "Hi," Kennedy said in an angry tone. "Kennedy, what's wrong?" I asked.
"Kennedy?" Adalyn asked. "Kennedy. Answer your mother and your sister," Adam said. "Daddy is leaving and I don't want to stay here with mommy!" Kennedy screamed before she ran upstairs and I heard the slam of her bedroom door.
"Leaving?" I asked as I looked at Adam. "Daddy is going to make a movie in Florida!" Adalyn exclaimed. "Excuse me?" I said. "I was going to tell you when you came down. I got offered to be in a movie. 2 months in Florida," He said.
"Wow. Congrats," I said as I hugged him. "Thanks babe. I promise I will Skype all the time and you guys could come visit me on set," I said. "Who's your costar?" I asked. "Jennifer Lawrence," He said. "What!" I exclaimed. "Yeah," He said. "I love her! She's an amazing actress and she's so gorgeous!" I said.
"Yeah she's amazing, but not as amazing as you," He said. "You're cute. I better go talk to Kennedy." I said as I got up. "I better go pack. I leave in 2 hours," He said. "So soon?" I said. "Yeah," He said before we walked hand in hand upstairs.
I opened Kennedy's door and saw her on her floor, crying. "Baby?" I said. "Go away!" She shouted. "Kennedy," I said before she interrupted me. "Leave me alone!" She screamed. "Kennedy Sophia, you will not speak like that to me. I'm your mother," I said.
"If you were my mommy, you wouldn't have left me, Addie, and daddy for 2 years!" She screamed. That hurt. A lot. I felt tears start to form around my eyes. I turned around and saw Adam standing in the doorway. Tears fell down my cheeks and I ran out of the room. I ran to the bathroom and locked the door.
Adam's POV
I felt awful for Lena. She was heart broken. I heard the bathroom door slam. I walked into Kennedy's room and sat next to her on the floor.
"Kennedy, why were you just so mean to your mom?" I asked her. "Because she doesn't love us! I'm not going to be nice to her!" She screamed. "Kennedy, your mother loves you very much. She's been home for over a year! What brought this on?" I asked.
Kennedy walked over to her bed and pulled something out from under it. She walked back over to me and handed it to me. I recognized it. It was a picture of Lena, Sarah, Adalyn, Kennedy, and I a few weeks before Sarah died. Lena wanted a family "photo shoot" and this was her favorite picture.
The glass over the frame was shattered. I remembered why. It was one of the pictures Lena broke before she left. "Kennedy where did you find this?" I asked. "I found it in the trash. Addie and I were playing with our barbies and mine flew out of my hand and went in the garbage can. I grabbed it and saw the picture," She said.
"Kennedy, after Sarah died, mommy went through a hard time. She had to leave for a while. She did it for us. Mommy thought about you every day. She loves you and Adalyn very much. You yelling at mommy made her sad. Can you go say sorry and tell mommy how much you love her?" I said. She nodded her head and walked out of the room.
Lena's POV
I heard a tiny knock on the door and I heard Kennedy's voice. "Mommy?" I heard her say. I wiped my tears away and opened the door. "Yes Kennedy?" I said. "Mommy I'm sorry I yelled at you. I love you," She said. I leaned down and looked at her.
"Kennedy look at me," I said. She looked up at me and it broke my heart to see her sad face. "Mommy loves you very much and she's never ever leaving again," I said. "Ok," She said before she hugged me and ran back downstairs.
2 hours later, there was a car waiting for Adam outside. "I love you two so much! I promise I will call every day," Adam said as he hugged the girls and kissed their heads. He turned towards me and smiled. He rubbed my stomach and kissed it. "Bye little buddy," He said.
He looked at me and hugged me. "I love you so much Adam," I said. "I love you too Lena," He said before he kissed me. "Bye guys," He said before he grabbed his suitcase and headed out the door.
I was happy for Adam, but scared for myself at the same time.
