Christmas Morning
Adam rolled over and wrapped his arm around Lena's waist. "Merry Christmas beautiful," Adam said as he pulled her up against his chest and kissed her cheek. "Merry Christmas," Lena said as she rolled over to face Adam. "This is our first Christmas with Baylee," Adam said. "I wonder if they celebrated Christmas at the orphanage," Lena said. "Well all that matters now is that she's part of this family now and I hope she enjoys the gifts we got her," Adam said before he kissed Lena.
"Well how about I give you my gift first," Lena said as she said up. "Why don't we wait until the kids are asleep for that," Adam said as he smirked up at her. "Not that kind of gift. I got you an actual gift," She said as she rolled out of bed and walked towards the closet. Lena picked up the bag from the back of the closet and walked back out to Adam. She hoped that he would like it. She had spent the past month working on it while he was at The Voice.
"Merry Christmas baby," She said as she handed him the bag. Adam pulled the tissue paper out before lifting a big scrapbook out of the bag. At the top of the cover it said Levine in maroon letters and below it there were pictures of their entire family. The top picture was of their family now and the picture below it was when Sarah was alive.
Adam felt tears well up in his eyes as he opened the book. The first page had a picture of an ultrasound from when Lena was pregnant with Sarah. Adam moved his fingers over the picture as a tear fell down his cheek. All his waves of regret came rushing back. He should've never left Lena. If he hadn't, he could've been there to seen Sarah grow up and she would probably still be alive right now.
He flipped through the next few pages and saw that they were pictures from Sarah growing up. Each of her birthdays and different Halloween costumes. She looked adorable. Adam felt Lena wrap her arms around him as the tears kept falling. "I wish I could've been there. For all of it," Adam whispered through his sobs. "I know. I wish you were there too," Lena said as a tear slid down her cheek.
She missed her daughter so much. It broke her heart to know that Adam had only known her for 2 years of her life. She wished she could take it all back and not let Sarah drive that day. She would still be alive.
Adam kept flipping through the book until he saw a picture that he instantly recognized. Lena, Sarah, and him with marinara sauce all over their faces. It was the day that Lena told Adam and Sarah that Adam was Sarah's father. It had been on of the best days of Adam's life. To learn that he had a daughter, was just amazing to him.
He kept flipping through the book until he found a picture from their wedding. Lena looked absolutely stunning. They looked so happy. It was the happiest day of his life. He got to marry his true love. He had never been so nervous in his life. He was so anxious to marry the love of his life. He had been so happy.
Adam flipped the page and saw pictures from the day that Kennedy and Adalyn were born. After Lena's miscarriage, they thought they were never going to have another child, but the got twins. Two very beautiful baby girls, Adam thought to himself. Sarah was so excited for her baby sisters.
Adam flipped through a few pages of the twins as babies and then came across the a page he hadn't expected. An in memory page of Sarah Amber Levine. There was her eulogy, pictures of her and the twins, her and Adam, her and Lena, her and Tyler, and her last school picture. Adam felt a lump catch in his throat before he broke into a silent fit of sobs. Good thing there were plastic screen covers over the pages, otherwise Lena's work would've been ruined by Adam's tears.
Lena rested her head on Adam's shoulder and just listened to his quiet sobs. Lena started crying herself. It had been hard enough when she had made the scrapbook, but watching Adam look through it just broke her heart. She knew how bad he had felt while she was alive about him only coming into her life from age 14 on. She knew he felt worse about her dying after him only knowing her 2 years. It made her wish she had told him sooner.
After what felt like years, Adam choked back his sobs. He felt Lena's tears on his shirt and he didn't want her to cry. He flipped the page and found pages upon pages of from when Lena came home to now. From the girls' birthdays to visiting Sarah, to having Aiden.
He loved the book. It was so sweet of Lena to do this for him. He hoped that she would like his gift too. He put a lot into the gift and really hoped that she would love it. He slowly shut the book and set in on the bed next to him. He wiped away his tears and pulled Lena onto his lap.
"Thank you for the scrapbook. It's beautiful," He said. "Your welcome Adam. I hoped you would like it," She said. "I absolutely love it. It's perfect," He said before he kissed her. "Well I'm glad you love it. I love you Adam. Merry Christmas," She said as she wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tight, as if she would never let go. "I love you too Lena, and now it's time for your gift," Adam said as he kissed her forehead and set her on the bed.
Adam walked inside the closet and grabbed a wrapped box. He walked back out to Lena and handed her the box before sitting next to her one the bed. Lena unwrapped the box and opened it. She pulled out a black leather journal. On the front were inscribed gold letters.
To Lena Levine, the love of my life. My entire world. My beautiful and stunning wife. I will love you forever and always. Love Adam
Lena felt her tears coming back. She opened the journal and saw the pages were filled with Adam's handwriting. Each page had a date at the top and she realized that the first date was the day she told Adam about Sarah. Each page was about a week apart. There were well over 600 pages in the journal. Lena let the tears fall down her cheeks. He wrote about her every week. What had happened and how much he loved her and the kids. Sometimes random song lyrics were scribbled down, which made her smile.
She looked at the very last page and smiled to herself.
To my dearest Lena,
I love you so much. Merry Christmas beautiful. I hope you enjoy this journal. It's over 6 years of every thought I've had about you, us, our kids, and our lives. I love you more than you will ever know. I wrote the most while you were gone those dreadful 2 years. I hope you like this journal. 6 years in the making. I love you my gorgeous wife. I can't wait to start another journal, and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you.
Forever and Always,
Adam Noah
"Oh Adam," Lena said as she wiped her tears away and set the journal on her dresser. "Thank you so much," She said as she hugged him. "Your welcome. I was going to wait awhile, but this journal was full, so I decided you should have it." He said. "Well I absolutely love it and I can't wait to read each page," She said before she kissed him.
Best way to start off Christmas.
