Lena's POV
It's been a month since Adam and I renewed our vows. That gesture made me instantly forgive him and trust him again. Our family was complete again and I never wanted it to be broken again.
I woke up to the sound of Aiden's cry. I opened my eyes and watched Adam roll out of bed and grab Aiden out of his bassinet before he sat back on the bed.
Adam barely ever put Aiden down since he met him. He was so happy to finally have a son that he wanted to spend every moment with him.
Kennedy and Adalyn ran into our room and hopped onto our bed. "Hey cuties," I said as I kissed their head. "Hi mommy," They said.
"Does anyone know what today is?" I said. "Daddy's birthday!" They exclaimed. "Yeah yeah," Adam said. "Oh is someone upset about being 40?" I asked as I kissed his cheek.
"No, I just feel old. Having a newborn son at 40 years old," He said. "Well I think you look 30," I said. "Well thanks babe," He said before he kissed me.
"Ewww!" The girls exclaimed. "Oh hush. You two will be kissing your husbands someday," I said. "But that day won't be for a long long time," Adam said. "Of course," I said.
"Let's go downstairs and make daddy a birthday breakfast," I said as I hopped off the bed with the girls. They ran out of the room and I walked over to Adam.
"You don't have to do anything for my birthday," He said. "I know, but I want to," I said before I kissed him. "Have I ever told you that you are the best wife in the world?" He said. "No, but now you have," I said before I kissed his nose and walked downstairs.
The girls were getting out the bisquick when I reached the kitchen. "Here mommy," Kennedy said as she handed me the box. "Thank you sweetie," I said.
The girls hopped onto the stools that were next to the counter as I mixed the pancake batter.
"Mommy, how old is daddy?" Adalyn asked. "Daddy is turning 40 today," I said. "Oh. How old are you mommy?" She asked. "I'm 37 sweetie. I turn 38 in a few weeks," I said.
"Mommy, is Sarah going to come to daddy's birthday party?" Kennedy asked. Her question took me by surprise. The girls hadn't asked about Sarah in a long time.
"Why do you ask?" I said. "So she can meet Aiden!" Kennedy exclaimed. "Well Sarah will be watching over us from heaven," I said. "Why is Sarah in heaven and not here with us?" Adalyn asked.
"When you girls were a little over a year old, Sarah got into a car crash. The doctors couldn't save her, so she passed away," I said while tears fell from my cheeks. "Mommy, she wouldn't want you to cry. She would want you to be happy for daddy's birthday," Adalyn said as she smiled at me.
I wiped away my tears and smiled at them. They were growing up so fast. I can't believe I missed 2 years of their lives. I regretted it every single day.
Once I finished cooking the pancakes, I seperated them onto plates and set them on the table.
"Adam! Your breakfast is ready!" I shouted as I poured orange juice into 4 cups. I set the cups on the table as Adam walked downstairs with Aiden in his arms.
I grabbed Aiden from Adam and sat down at the table.
"Daddy?" Kennedy said. "Yes angel?" Adam said as he ate his pancakes. "Can we go visit Sarah today?" She asked. Adam looked up at me with sadness in his eyes. "Of course we can," Adam said.
Once we finished breakfast, the girls ran upstairs to change. "Why do the girls suddenly want to see Sarah?" Adam asked as he put the plates in the sink. "They were asking me about her this morning. I don't know what brought it up," I said as I walked over to the table and picked up the girls' school folders to put in their backpacks.
I saw a paper sticking out of Adalyn's folder, so I pulled it out. It was a show and tell project to tell the class about themselves. The first thing on the list was to talk about your parents and your siblings.
"Adam, they have a project for school about themselves. They're supposed to talk about their family. That's why they've been asking about Sarah," I said. "I think it's sweet," Adam said as he walked over to me and took their folders before placing them back on the table.
I looked at Aiden in my arms and felt tears starting to fall from my cheeks. "I just wish she could've met him," I said. "I wish too, but I think God gave us Aiden because he took Sarah from us," Adam said as he kissed my forehead.
Before I could say anything else, I heard the girls running down the stairs.
"Ready mommy!" Kennedy exclaimed. I wiped my tears before I turned around to face them. "Alright cuties. Let us go get changed and then we can go," I said before I started walking upstairs with Aiden and Adam.
Just thinking about Sarah made me miss her that much more.
