Baylee's POV

I walked into the orphanage and saw the head of the place, Miss Johnson.

She saw me and a look of confusion came over her face. I knew she wouldn't be fooled easily.

"Baylee? What are you doing back here? Didn't Adam Levine and his wife adopt you?" She asked. "They decided they didn't want me anymore," I said. "Well they seemed excited when they got you," She said. "I guess I just didn't live up to their expectations," I said.

"Oh, well I'm sorry to hear that," She said. "It's fine. I'm used to it by now and I've accepted it," I said. "Well you can have your old room back. We haven't moved anything," She said. "Thanks," I said before I walked back to my old room.

I set my backpack on the small desk in the corner and sat on my bed.

Sure, everything I told Miss Johnson was a lie, but I couldn't take it. She would make me go back to them if I told her that I just ran away.

When will I ever be able to truely trust a family? Adam and Lena cared so much for me, and I just ran away from it all. I ran away when the stress got to me. I couldn't help it. It's who I am.

Maybe one day I'll be able to trust someone.

Adam's POV

I held Lena in my arms for well over 3 hours. My t-shirt was soaking wet with her tears. I tried my best to soothe her, but nothing worked.

The only thing that I could do was to hold her and rub her back. She was an emotional wreck. She had only known Baylee for a few short months, but she was heartbroken over her running away.

I heard little feet running downstairs. I turned around and saw Adalyn and Kennedy looking at us.

"What's wrong with mommy?" Adalyn asked. "Mommy's just a little sad right now," I said, trying to hold back my tears. "Aiden's crying," Kennedy said. "Oh, ok. Could you go upstairs and stand outside his crib and sing to him," I said. "Ok," They said before they ran back upstairs.

"Lena, baby, you have to stop crying soon. We have to take care of our kids," I said as I tucked a loose piece of hair behind her ears and looked at her wet, red, puffy eyes.

"She can't be gone," Lena whispered. "She'll come back babe. She can't be gone for long," I said. "Adam, I was starting to truly feel like she was my daughter. I love her Adam," She said before she bursted into tears again.

I kept rocking her back and forth. It's the only way I knew how to comfort her. I didn't know what else to do. I was afraid if I did anything else, she would completely crack.

"I'm going to take you upstairs, ok? I need to check on the kids," I said. She just nodded her head and held onto my shirt. I stood up and carried her upstairs to our room.

I laid her in bed and covered her with the sheets. I kissed her head and stroked her tear-stained cheek with my hand. I kissed her cheek and walked out of the room. I felt awful for leaving her alone in tears, but I couldn't neglect the 3 kids we still had.

I walked into Aiden's room and saw Kennedy and Adalyn standing next to his crib with my phone on the nightstand. I heard Sunday Morning playing from my phone and saw that Aiden had stopped crying.

I walked over to the crib and saw that Aiden had fallen back asleep. "All we had to do was play your music daddy. That's what stops him from crying," Adalyn said. "I'm glad," I said before I grabbed my phone and shut the music off.

"Can you girls go back in the play room?" I asked them. "Sure daddy," Adalyn said before she ran downstairs. I walked out of the room and saw Kennedy standing in the doorway to mine and Lena's bedroom.

I walked over to her and kneeled down to her level. "Hey cutie. Whatcha doing?" I asked her. "What's wrong with mommy? Why is she crying?" She asked as she looked at Lena.

"Baylee ran away and mommy is just upset," I said as I pulled her into my arms. "Why did Baylee leave? Did she leave like sissy?" She asked. "Oh sweetie, no. Baylee just went on a little vacation," I said as I hugged her.

"Can you go into the play room with Addie while daddy takes care of mommy?" I asked her. "Ok," She said before she ran out of my arms and downstairs.

I got up and shut the doors behind me as I walked into the bedroom. I walked over to Lena. Her tears had finally stopped and she was asleep. Thank god. If she had cried any longer, I was scared I was going to break down myself.

Now I just needed to find Baylee. Where the hell could she have gone? We were the only people she had.

The orphanage.
