Adam's POV
I pulled into the cemetary and looked at Lena. She already had tears falling from her eyes. I grabbed her hand and she looked at me. I kissed her cheek before climbing out of the car. Lena helped the girls out while I grabbed Aiden's carrier.
Adalyn ran over to me and held my hand while Kennedy held Lena's. We walked for about a minute before we reached Sarah's grave.
The girls walked over to the grave stone and ran their hand over it. "Mommy is Sarah here?" Kennedy asked. "Sarah is in heaven looking down on us," Lena said through her tears.
"Why did Sarah leave us daddy? Did she not want to be here anymore?" Adalyn asked. "Of course she wanted to be here sweetheart. God just needed her in heaven. He needed another beautiful angel to watch over us," I said.
"Can we ever get her back?" Kennedy asked. "No we can't. But one day we will all be able to be with her again," I said as tears started rolling down my face.
Kennedy walked over to me and grabbed Aiden's carrier from me. She carried it over to the gravestone and set it down. I looked over at Lena and she was sobbing. I walked over to her and wrapped my arms around her. She buried her face in my chest and cried.
"Sarah, this is our new baby brother Aiden. Mommy had him a little while ago. I wish you could have met him. I've seen pictures of you and he looks like you. He's a good baby brother. I love him so much. You would love him too. I wish you could celebrate daddy's birthday with us. I miss you sissy," Kennedy said.
I began to sob as soon as Kennedy said that. The girls never got to truely know Sarah since they were so young when she died and Aiden will never know anything except stories we tell him about her.
"I wish Kennedy and me got to know you better Sarah. We miss our big sister. Mommy and daddy try to play with us, but they are really busy with Aiden, so it's just us. We miss our big sister. We love you sissy," Adalyn said as she hugged Sarah's grave.
I had no idea the girls felt that way. Maybe Lena and I had been spending a little too much time with Aiden and the girls missed our attention.
I let go of Lena and walked up to Sarah's gravestone.
"Hey baby girl. I know I only knew you for 2 years, but those were the best 2 years of my life. I miss you so much Sarah. If I had known about you earlier, I would have come into your life much sooner. I wish I never left your mom after that one night. Maybe you would still be down here with us. I wish you got to meet Aiden. He's a great boy. I'll make sure he knows how great of an older sister he had. Love you Sarah. I miss you so much," I said before I kissed the gravestone and walked back to Lena.
Lena said a few words to Sarah before she broke down and walked back to me. "Adam I miss her so much," She said. "I know sweetheart. I miss her too," I said.
I picked up Aiden's carrier and we all walked back to the car. I started the car and sped off.
20 minutes later, I stopped in front of an orphanage.
"Babe what are we doing here?" Lena asked. "The girls want their big sister back. We're going to give them a big sister," I said before I got out of the car.
Lena grabbed Aiden's carrier and we all walked inside. I walked up to the front desk. "Hi, I was wondering if there are any teenage girls here," I said. The lady gave me a weird look. "We would like to adopt a teenage daughter," I said. The lady looked at the kids and raised her eyebrow. "Our teenage daughter died 4 years ago," I said. "I'm sorry to hear that," She said.
"We do have a 15 year old girl that has been here for about a year. She's had a bad past and she's sensitive around people. So, please try to be gentile." She said. "What's her name?" I asked. "Baylee Madelyn," She said. "Beautiful name," I said. "She's a beautiful girl," She said. "Can we see her?" I asked. "How about just you for now. She'll get anxiety if too many people are around her," She said.
I followed her into a small bedroom. The walls were a bland gray and the floors had creaky hardwood. I walked in and saw a girl who looked like Sarah. She had dark brown hair and hazel eyes. She reminded me of Sarah.
I looked down from her face and saw bruises on her arms. She was wearing a tattered white t-shirt and sweatpants. This poor girl. She looked at me and tears fell from her eyes.
"Baylee, this is Adam Levine. Him and his wife want to adopt you," The receptionist said. I looked at the wall and saw a Maroon 5 poster.
Baylee looked up at me and I saw a slight smile, but it instantly faded. "I'll leave you to get aquainted," The receptionist said before she left to have Lena sign papers.
I walked over to the bed and sat next to Baylee. "Hi," I said. "Hi," She said. "So you like Maroon 5?" I asked. "Yeah," She said. "Favorite song?" I asked. "She Will Be Loved," She said quietly. "Why?" I asked her. "I'm still waiting for someone to care about me and the song gives me hope," She said as she looked down at her hands.
"Well I have a beautiful wife, two twin 5 year old daughters, and a newborn son. We would be more than happy to show you how much we love you and care about you," I said. "Really?" She asked. "Of course," I said before she followed me out of the room to sign the adoption papers.
After I signed the papers with Lena, we all climbed into the car and headed home. We were going to welcome Baylee into our lives with open arms.
We adopted a beautiful teenage daughter. Even though she looked like Sarah, hopefully I could show her the love a father could give, to make up for the love Sarah never fully got from me.
