Colleen: What the hell dude!?
"What do you mean it's Lily?" Steph asked me.
"Exactly what it means. She's here." My nose tickled at her scent.
"What do we do? We have a human here. We have to get Jayce out of here." She said.
"There's nothing we can do. She's too close." My nose was planted into the air.
"If she's here to fight, Stephie, then we have to be prepared with Jayce here or not." Dad said behind me.
"Why would she be after us? What is going on?" Mr. Cutie Patootie Jayce said.
"We don't know." Dad clutched mom's hand and pulled her near him.
"Maybe I can help." Oh God, it's my new annoying little sister. Phyllis..
"No, dear. It's too dangerous for you." Mom said.
"I can help. Really I can. Just please let me." Phyllis said.
"No, Phyllis."
"Look Margurite, you're not my mother. I had a mother before you took me from her. Thank you very much. Anyway, this Lily person attacked me for a reason, and I wanna know what that reason is. So, end of discussion. I'm going to talk to her."
"She knows you are on our side, Phyllis." Dad said.
"I know, but if I can convince her to come clean to me, then maybe I can get some answers out of her."
"I agree with Miss Goodie Two Shoes for once." I snickered.
"But you are Lily's best friend, cuz. She will come clean to you and tell you everything." Steph said.
"I'm not so sure about that anymore, Steph. She's changed. We're both not the same people we used to be."
"Then it's settled!" Phyllis bopped. "I'm going out there!"
Everyone was silent while Phyllis made her way to the back door.
She stepped out into the dimming daylight and moved herself away from the direction of the sun. She made her way around the side of the house and made her way to the front yard. She stood on the lawn with a confused look on her face.
"Maybe she left." I said.
Dad's eyes got wide. "No, she's still here. Go get Phyllis."
Steph, JT and I rushed out the front door to find Phyllis standing in the same spot on the front lawn, staring at us.
"Are you okay?" Steph asked Phyllis, but she continued to stare at us. Her stare turned blank, stiffened.
Steph ran up to her aid. As she tried to wake her up out of her trance, the scent of apples and blood sparked my attention.
In the bushes was Lily, crouched down with her dark brown hair covering her black eyes. Her hair turned stringy and damp looking. Her stare shifted from me to Phyllis.
I tried to link my mind with hers'. It was like her mind was filled with black smoke. It was a smoke screen against my mind. Then, that's when I wondered if the awesome memories of us as sisters were still lingering in her head. Her mind was already tapped in to. I gave myself an internal smack on the forehead. Phyllis was communicating with Lily through her mind.
JT left the porch beside me and met with Steph and Phyllis. He picked Phyllis up and carried her back inside. Lily was gone from the bushes.
"Phyllis, honey can you hear me?" Mom rushed out of the kitchen.
Phyllis was unconscious. Her heart was still beating. She was knocked out cold.
I grabbed Steph and ran back outside with JT right behind us. Lily was standing on the front lawn this time. Her eyes were pitch black. I've never seen so much darkness in my life. She definitely wasn't the same Lily I knew as my friend. She was more gruesome. More careless.
It took every inch of my being to not shake her and make her go back to her old happy, bubbly self. I knew that now she was darker, and more sinister than I thought. I heard stories about undead vampires. I heard their eyes were pitch black with hunger. Their skin was hard as stone and ten times more pale than a half breed vampire. I guess now I can't complain about how pale my skin looked. Lily looked, well, dead.
I know JT is ready to rip his own heart to shreds for turning Lily into the more dangerous version of us. It hurts me to see him blame himself for saving her life. That's exactly how I see it. He saved the life of my best friend.
"Colleen! Where are you?" Mom's voice echoed.
"Lily's outside." I called back. Mom's voice continued to echo through the house. I couldn't tear my attention away from Lily. My sister was dead.
"Lyn."
It was her. She was in my head. All I could hear in my head was the soft echo of my heart beat.
"What the hell are you doing, sis? Why have you been staying away from me? Like, dude, I'm your sister."
"You're not my sister anymore."
My heart stung. The tears were eating away at my eye sockets.
"What the hell do you mean? What are you talking about? I am your sister!"
"No, you're not. Now stop looking for me." Her body lifted in the breeze of the light mist. She was gone again.
