Colleen: It’s happening again
"I can't believe him!" JT threw the chair across the bar. His face was pale white with fury. His fists turned just as ghostly as his face. I have never seen him this angry. I ran to him, scared and confused. My hands were shaking just as wild as his. I cupped my hands around his head.
"Baby, baby, look at me. It's okay." I shushed him. His beautiful indigo eyes calmed. He was breathing softly.
I smiled. "See, it's okay. It's over now."
"I'm sorry, babe. I shouldn't have let Jayce get to me like that. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean for you to see me like that."
"Stop apologizing. It's over. He's gone." he took my hands in his and held them close to his heart.
"You feel that?"
The soft thumping of his immortal heart beat against the skin of my hands. I chuckled at its beauty.
"I do."
"Because of you, I still have a heart. Because of you, I feel love."
"And because of you, I feel normal. I feel that every waking moment I spend with you, I grow closer to maturity."
He threw back a heavy laugh that boomed through the walls of the bar. "Are you sure it's maturity?”
"Very funny, babe." I chuckled.
"Listening to Jayce got me thinking and dying to ask you this question."
I played with the hairs on the back of his head. "Anything." I whispered.
"Do you believe we could work?"
My eyes widened. "What? But you said-"
"I know what I said. I wanna make sure. Could we?"
Without hesitation I gave him a strong and solid 'yes'.
He sighed, smiled his canine smile and kissed me. The wind chill coming from the door startled both of us. We turned toward the door to see Stephanie. She was naked and covered with blood. I shielded his eyes.
"What happened to you?"
"I-I was hungry." The blood gurgled in her throat.
"Oh gosh, Steph." I whispered. I handed her her clothes and pushed her toward the bathroom. JT's eyes were closed tight still.
"Can I open them?"
I laughed and kissed him. "Yep."
His lids fluttered and out popped his gorgeous eyes.
"What happened to her?" he whispered.
"I don't know. She said she was hungry."
"Do you think she went hunting?"
"I don't know. Maybe. She left before we even had a chance to ask her where she was going."
"She was covered in blood. The blood smelled human."
I gasped loudly. "She did it."
"Did what?"
"Broke the promise to herself. She promised herself she wasn't going to hunt humans. She did it. She finally did it!"
"Go ahead and celebrate, cuz. I finally killed someone."
Steph's hair was soaking and dripping all over the bar floor. Her eyes were bright blue and her fangs were still sharp.
"Who did you kill? Tell me." I said.
She sat at the bar with her head down. She began to weep.
"There were two of them. They were together. I couldn't help myself. I was so hungry." she lifted her head to look at both of us. I cringed at the sight of her blue eyes.
