The Night

- Rey's view -

"We will arrive home shortly." I hear Master Luke say.

I never thought this day would come, I get to see my friends again. I get up from my seat and walk towards a window towards the end of the ship. I peer outside, it is mid-day here, and I can already see a group of people gathered around the launch pad. They look like tiny little ants from here. As we get closer, I start to make out their faces, Finn, Leia, and Poe. Poe is the last person I want to see, this all wouldn't have happened if he had listened and backed off.

"Who do you see?" I hear Ben say as he walks towards me.

"Our friends." I say, I don't want this arrival to start off on a bad note.

"I never considered Poe to be a friend." I hear hi say, sarcasm riddling his tone.

"I didn't either, but let's just ignore him shall we?"

"After what he did to you, no way." Ben says, he is becoming more and more angry.

"Ben please, just let it slide." I beg "I just want to be normal again, you can beat him to a pulp on your own time, and trust me, I would love to help, but let's not do it now. Just ignore him."

Ben puffs, and walks away. A few minutes pass in silence but then I feel a sudden jolt, and I know that we have landed. I walk over to the door, and stand in the frame. I hear the familiar sound of smoke, and the door slowly opened. Before I could take a step, I saw Finn run towards me. Soon I feel his arms wrap around me. I stand in shock for a few seconds, until I finally hug him back. He smells like him, like the grass and trees, and the waterfalls, home.

"Don't you dare leave me again." Finn says, his voice shaking as if he is trying to hold back tears.

"I promise." I say "I am so sorry Finn."

"I'm just glad that you are back." He says pulling out of the hug. I finally see his face, he is smiling, and some tears have pooled up in his eyes.

"I'm here now, that's all that matters." I say.

         

The next few hours all pass in a blur. I walked out and met everyone. General Leia gave me a hug, and told me to never leave like that again, typical. Finn would not stop talking, but I loved every second of it. Poe, well he just stood there, he didn't even say a word until after Ben left. He pulled me aside and apologized for what he did, he said that it was stupid and rash of him, and that he regrets it. I told him that I already forgot about it, and that we might start to become friends again. After that I went up to my apartment. I expected it to be dusty and messy, just like I had left it, but when I opened my door, everything was clean. I walked over to my kitchen counter, I saw a vase with roses, and a note. I opened it, it was from Finn. He wrote it when I first left. Now I am lying on my bed staring at the ceiling. So much has happened today, and I should be able to fall asleep, but I am wide awake. I hear footsteps coming towards my door. I instantly sit up, and reach for my lightsaber and hold it close to me. I see the door handle slowly turn, and the door creek open. A tall figure walks in, and I turn on my lightsaber. The figure jumps back, and yells, "Jeez Rey, calm down, it's only me."

I lower my lightsaber and let out a sigh of relief. "Sorry." I mumble, I have become so paranoid lately, I feel like I am being watched and followed all the time.

"It's ok." Ben says as he giggles. "I have a surprise for you, follow me."

I get out of bed and follow Ben out the door. What could this surprise be? Ben was never one for a party, so that can't be it. We reach the elevator, and we walk in, Ben presses a button and we head up. Before the doors open ben stops me and pulls out a handkerchief, he wraps it around me eyes. "Trust me." He says. I reach out for his large hands and hold them as we walk out of the elevator. We walk until I feel a gust of wind hit my face, that must mean that we are outside. We walk some more until I hear some faint music start to play, and then we stop walking.I feel Ben walk behind me and untie the handkerchief from my eyes. "Surprise." He whispers. I open my eyes and let out a gasp. We are on the rooftop, and in front of me is a table set for two, with a beautiful vase of red and white roses in the middle. A dozen white lanterns decorate the surrounding area, and candles brighten up the table, it is truly a magnificent sight.

"Please have a seat." Ben says a he pulls out a chair, he seems nervous, and a little jittery. I giggle and sit down, "Since when did you become such a gentleman?" I ask him.

"Since about two minutes ago." He says laughing slightly. We eat in silence, often sneaking a glance at each other, often smiling when we see each other. This moment is truly magical, I don't know what would make it better. Once our meal was finished, Ben stands up and extends his arm towards me. I grab it and we walk. We talk about little things, like what I saw when I was looking for him, what he learned, how much we loved each other. We reach the corner of the rooftop. "Ben, I had a lovely time tonight, thank you." I say.

"Rey, I want you to look up, tell me what you see." he says back

"Now, can you count all those stars?" He says, a small smile lighting up his face. I look up again, I stare at them, I smile.

"Ben, there is no way that..." I begin to say, but before I finish I look to find that Ben was kneeling on one knee, a small box open in his hand, and in it the most beautiful diamond that I have ever seen.

Ben had the biggest grin on his face as he said. "Rey, I love you. I love you more than all the stars in the night sky. You are my world, my galaxy, and I could never live without you. Every hour that we spent together lives within my heart. I want to make so many memories with you, even if those memories mean I have to do something I would never do. This past year that we spent apart, only showed me that once you are truly in love, it is impossible to let go. I never want to be apart from you. Rey, will you do me the greatest honour in the galaxy, and marry me."

Tears start to fill up my eyes, this is the happiest moment of my life. I never thought that this would happen. "I would gladly marry you."I say. This is truly the best day of my life. Ben slides the ring onto my finger, stands up and kisses me. This kiss is different, it is filled with love, passion, but above all, it is filled with promise, a promise that we will never let go.

"I love you." I say, our foreheads touching.

"I love you too." Ben says. If I could pick four words to hear everyday, they would most definitely be: I love you too.
