Reylo - Unlikely Love

The Sand

I would like to dedicate this chapter to my mom. She is my biggest supporter, and I love her more than all the stars in the galaxy.
Another boring day filled with disappointment. No was has heard of Ben since the First Order took him two weeks ago. I open my door and stare around my apartment. It is covered with dust, and my clothes are scattered everywhere. Finn has tried to persuade me to clean my place, but honestly I can't do anything. This ring on my finger is a constant reminder of the happiness that was so suddenly robbed from me.

I walk to my living room and stare out the floor to ceiling windows. The nights sky is painted with thousands of tiny glistening dots, twinkling once in a while. My mind replays that night. The memory stings, and so do my eyes because of the tears filling them up quickly. I turn to the kitchen, I can still see Ben in a flowery apron covered in flower, another sting. This whole apartment has traces of him. I sit on the couch and try to breathe, holding my head in my hands looking down. Suddenly the door flies open and Finn walks in. I quickly stand up and walk over to him

"How many times do I have to tell you to lock your door?" Finn says still panting, he had been running to tell me something important, hopefully it wasn't about my stupid door.

"Finn, now is seriously not the time" I tell him.

"Right, I came to tell you something else" Finn says, he pauses to catch his breathe.

I raise my eyebrow and wait for him to continue.

"They found him Rey, they found Ben." When these words tumble out of Finn's mouth, I feel a sudden rush of energy fill me up.

I feel as if I am about to explode. Every inch of me wants to run, grab a ship and find him. But I wait, I can tell by the expression on Finn's face that there is much more to this story.

"Or should I say we found Kylo Ren" Finn says, looking at the floor, genuine sadness fills his voice.

"What do you mean?" I ask him, his statement takes me aback.

"He had orders from Snoke to murder and entire village. He wants to draw you out" Finn pauses, waiting to see my reaction. I stay completely neutral in the face, but my heart feels like it will break. What have they done to him?

"He is holding some of them hostage, he want you to come, or he will kill them all" Finn finally stops. I stare at the ground, the world around me starts to spin. There is only one thing to do, I have to go and see Ben.

"Rey?" Finn asks as he places a hand on my shoulder.

"I'm going" I say to him, "Alone, and when I come back I will bring Ben back"

"But..." Finn begins but I interrupt him

"I won't have any more people die or get hurt because of me. I'm going alone" I say to Finn as I push past him.

I walk straight down the corridor, into the elevator and get off. I reach the conference room where everyone is gathered, discussing a plan. As soon as I enter, the room goes silent. I make my way to General Leia.

I take a deep breathe, and clench my fists. "I am going by myself, and no one can stop me" I look around, everyone's eyes are wide with amazement, "No one else will get hurt because of me, especially if there is something I can do to stop it" I survey the room again, some people are nodding, and some have an accepting grin on their faces, "I will leave tonight" With these words I walk out of the room and back to my apartment, I have no idea what I am going to do when I get to Ben, but I know I have to bring him back.

Hours pass, I am all alone in this ship. A part of me starts to regret coming alone, but it is for the best. I look out the window, the stars blur together. I easily get lost in all the memories of Ben and I, how many times did he compare his love for me to these very stars? I snap out of my trance and realize that I am nearing my destination. I come out of light-speed with a simple press of a button and navigate my ship to land exactly where I was instructed to. I grab my lightsaber and head off the ship. Our meeting spot was a ten minute walk, and as I began to walk I could not shake the feeling of being watched. Finally, I arrive and wait.

It feels like I am waiting for hours, but then again that's what loneliness feels like, it feels like you are waiting for hours just for a simple smile, but that smile brightens my day. I would wish nothing more than to be in Ben's arms again, and to see him smile...

"Well, not to crush that petty dream of yours, but Ben is dead" I hear a voice say.

I quickly spin around and see a tall dark figure stand before me. His cape swishing in the wind. Ben. His mask covers his face, he looks exactly like the monster he was before I found him.

"I am here now, so let them go" I demand.

"As you wish, scavenger" Ben sneers.

A moment of tense silence passes, and then suddenly Ben steps towards me. "I let them live, I cannot guarantee the same fate for you"

I take a step back and reach for my lightsaber, before my hand could graze the familiar metal, my whole body turns stiff. I cannot move at all. This situation feels all too familiar.

"The supreme leader told me that I needed to kill you, that your mission is to destroy me, to prevent me from finishing what my grandfather started. I WILL NEVER LET YOU DO THAT, do you understand scavenger" Ben spits out those words, his fingers were under my chin, I wanted to look into his eyes, but I am faced with a cold mask of metal. I can't even move my lips to protest this thought. "Good bye Rey" Ben says as he lifts his lightsaber high up, then everything turns black...

I wake up, the sky is dark and filled with thousands of starts. I am on the floor surrounded my sand, I stand up and stare down. In the faint light, I am able to make out a message written in the sand.

I'm still here.
