"The reason why i don't talk to you anymore is because i keep telling myself that if you wanted to speak to me , you would"

I followed Carla and I found out she stopped at the bridge facing the water.

“What happened?” I asked her as I sat down.

She shrugged and I looked at her. She was crying and her mascara was running down her face and her hair was falling out; she was a damsel in distress.

“I can’t do this” she said wiping away her tears.

“What do you mean?” I asked her.

She looked at me, her brown eyes all watery and sad.

“How do you marry someone you don’t love” Carla asked me, now looking out at the water.

“You don’t” I blurted out and I understood what was going on.

“He’s a really sweet guy…. But I don’t feel that spark anymore whenever we touch, or kiss. I don’t get butterflies every time I see him. It’s just a numb feeling. I don’t love him anymore. Ever since his mom came and ruined my life- I can’t look at him the same way. I just see us as friends” she said and I nodded.

“Does he know?” I asked and she shook her head.

“He doesn’t suspect a thing. I don’t want to hurt his feelings, but I just don’t feel the same about him anymore” she said now crying.

I rubbed her back in a soothing manner and brought her close.

“I miss mum so much” she sobbed and I started to get a little teary.

“I wish she was here to help me with THIS” she said motioning her hands to point at the wedding and herself “I wanted her be there when I bought the dress, when I first met Derek, the meeting of Fiona and her husband.”

“Why did they have to leave?” she whispered to me.

“I don’t know. I wonder the same thing every day. If they are watching over us, if they loved us or miss us at all; some things just happen for a reason” I said wiping away my tears.

“No they don’t!” said Carla and I looked at her in shock.

“Mum would’ve wanted you to get married to the person you loved- not what makes everyone else happy. She wanted you to be happy, go out and do what you love. I mean isn’t that what you want?” I asked her now standing up.

She nodded to me “That’s all I ever wanted”

“Tell me one thing though” I said to her as she stood up.

“What?” she asked.

“Who do you really love?” I asked wiping away her tears and fixing her hair and straightening out her dress.
