A favor

I let out a sigh of frustration as I waited outside the principles office anxiously waiting, am I in trouble? Am I getting a weeks worth of detention? or even worse, did I do something wrong that I might even get suspended for it? I began to think of all the bad things I've done throughout the year and only one thing came to mind, I could feel the heat in my cheeks begin to rise from embarrassment as the thought of me attempting to be a bad-ass rebel replayed back in my head.

It all started when it was the beginning of the year where I finally become a highschool junior student, everyone always saw me as the quiet, boring & smart kind of girl when in fact I'm not quiet, boring or smart, I do have my moments where I'm not smart at all. But anyways one day, one of my friends dared me to try be a bad-ass and be all 'reblel like'. Of course I accepted the dare, I mean how hard could it be right? Well unfortunately it was harder then I thought, I couldn't really find the right moment to grab everyone's attention until it was finally lunch time and mostly everyone was in the cafateria and only one thing came to mind at that point, and that one thing was to start a food fight. So me and my group of friends sat at our usual table, I told them about the whole 'food fight' which they gladly accepted to be apart of, at the count of three I began throwing random peices of food at random directions and constantly shouted food fight at the top of my lungs, I was probably getting way into it that I didn't realise the whole cafateria dropped into complete silence until my friend nudged me on my arm, everyone was looking at me in confusion not knowing what was going on, my smile dropped and all I could hear was laughter coming from every direction, it wasn't the kind of laugh where people were laughing with you, it was the kind of laugh where EVERYONE is laughing at you. At that moment I just wanted to crawl into a corner and hide from the rest of the world, for a whole week I would get looks from people and I tried my best to not let it get to me and after a week it finally began to die down and after that everything went back to normal.

Fortunately no teachers were around when it happened and I still haven't gotten into trouble for the mess I made that day, maybe this would be that day.

I began fiddling with my fingers getting extremely nervous, my eyes began darting towards the office door and back towards the other direction where the hallway was, what should I do? I've been waiting for almost more than half an hour, I hesitated not knowing whether if I should stay or go, I took a deep breath slowly getting off the seat ready to make my way toward the hallway but started regretting my decision as soon as the sound of a deep voice started calling my name making me freeze on the spot, my eyes widen and I take another deep breath as I slowly turning around to see Mr Hales standing outside his office door holding piles of paper in his hands.

'Sorry for the wait, the meeting was longer than I expected' he said as he looked down at his watch frowning.

'Oh it's fine Mr Hales, don't sweat it' I replied back while taking a small pile of papers from his hands and taking it into my own.

He smiled back showing his appreciation of thanks as he placed his hand on the door handle pushing it, I followed right behind him as he used his free hand to gesture to his desk where I placed the pile of papers.

'By now, I'm sure you're wondering why I brought you here' he said while organising the papers on his desks into two piles.

'Well yes' I said in reply hoping it's not a bad thing.

'First of all you're not in trouble' he said looking up at me with a small smile. I let out a steady sigh of relief

'I have a small favour to ask' he continued 'I'd like you to be showing new students around, help them find their classes, stick with them, be friendly, do whatever you can to make them feel welcome'

I nodded in response taking it in not really knowing why he picked me to do it, I opened my mouth to ask but he already began to explain

'I know you're probably also wondering why I picked you, you're responsible and I'm sure you know the school well enough, so you're perfect for the job, just so you know, the new students aren't exactly what you would call normal, you might probably recognise them so please try to not get too distracted'

I nodded taking it all in, but why me? Anyone would've been perfect for the job and since when did this favor become a job? What does he mean 'not normal'? I began rubbing my temples gently as all these questions started to form in my head.

'Get here to school early as you can and head to my office as soon as you can, I'll be asking you for more favors soon but for now one would be fine' he explained as he stapled the papers together and handing them over to me. I take the papers and I flick through the 5 pages skimming through what it says.

'When you get to my office tomorrow morning, I'll be here with the 5 new students and I'll explain everything then, thank you again'

He smiled one last time before dismissing me just in time for second period.
