You kept striking pose after pose in the mirror, while double checking your attire to make sure your outfit was perfect. You were wearing your signature skinny jeans, black camisole, royal blue flannel, and black high-tops while your hair was pushed back with a bandanna that matched your flannel. The only make-up you had on was simple eyeliner, mascara, and a tiny bit of lip gloss. The entire outfit was casual, the exact look you wanted, but you were still nervous about it. 'What if Leo thinks I look like a bum?!' That was the last thing you wanted, especially on your first date together. The nervousness you felt about your outfit only added to the amount you already had about the entire date. You had no clue what to do, how to act, what to say. Nothing.
But to be fair, this was nothing compared to what Leo was going through. You had never seen Captain Fearless so nervous and well scared than when he had asked you on the date in the first place.
Flashback
School was finally over and you were heading home to take a much needed nap. You strolled down the sidewalks, enjoying yourself. You were finally used to the hustle and bustle of New York and came to enjoy the daily organized chaos of it.
You came to a halt when waiting for the crosswalk. During the few seconds you had, you pulled out your phone to check and see if you had gotten any messages since school had let out. Immediately you see Leo had sent one message just a few minutes ago. Smiling to yourself, you open the message and see that it was his usual text saying that he hoped you had a good day at school. Quickly you type your reply saying the same about his training, but just as you were about to press 'Send' another message came through.
'Can you meet me at Murakami's in 10? It's urgent'
Responding with a quick 'Sure', you begin to make your way to the noodle shop. You had the slightest hint of urgency in your steps due to the slightest glimpse of worry that had formed in your stomach. But you knew your leader in blue better than that, so as a result you brushed it off. You made it to Murakami's within 15 minutes, a new record. As you stepped into the small restaurant, the bell above the door chimed; announcing your arrival. In a blink of an eye, the shop's owner appeared and had greeted you by name as usual. Chuckling slightly, you had asked the elderly blind man how he knew it was you every time.
"Do you possess some ancient magic that I don't know about?"
He just slightly shook his head and smiled. "Normally I can tell, but today is special."
Quirking an eyebrow, you asked, "How so?"
"The answer is simple my dear (Y/N)-san, Leo told me."
Upon hearing this bit of information, you dead-panned but quickly shook it off. Politely you asked Murakami where Leo was. To this, he simple nudged his head toward the back of the shop.
Following in the direction you had been pointed in, you casually made your towards the blue clad mutant. Following the short hallway into what was the kitchen. It was in there that you had seen it.
Blue ribbon. Every. Where.
The silky and shiny material was strung every. It was tied to pots, doors, drawers, and various appliances. It had been seamlessly taped to the walls and floor and ceiling. It had been wrapped around the jars and utensils. Overall it looked like a gigantic blue knot.
At this point you were beyond confused, ready to turn around and go back to the front to question the old man about it. But as soon as you did, you ran smack dab into a sticky note that was attached to the blue ribbon that connected with the rest. You quickly snatched the small piece of paper down and scan the neat handwriting that was scrawled upon it.
'Dear (Y/N), I understand you may be confused at the moment but I have something important to ask of you. But first I need you to do something for me. Obviously you've seen the blue ribbon. What I need you to do is to follow its trail but untangling it. It's going to take some time so be patient. After you do that then I'll be able to ask my question. ~Sincerely Yours, Leo.'
You were so going to make turtle soup out of him but you decided to save that for later. For now, you wanted to play along and did what the note had told you to do. You should have heeded his warning because it took two and a half hours to finally get it all untangled. By the time you had finished, there had been a single strand of the blue ribbon leading up the stairs towards the roof of the building. You followed the ribbon to the roof, to find Leo just sitting there meditating.
The amount of frustration that had welled up inside of you had broken loose, causing you to chuck the ball of ribbon straight at his head. Unfortunately, using his well honed-skills, he caught the ball without ever needing to open his eye. At this you huffed slightly and began to tap your foot a little impatiently. Hearing your discontent, Leo stood up and made his way to you engulfing you in a spine crushing hug. After he released you, a little of your annoyance had melted away.
"Well, what did you have to ask me?", you sigh slightly.
Raising his arm, he scratched the nape of his neck. "Well I wanted to ask you out on a date, this Saturday night?"
You only blinked at him. You didn't utter a word, this caused Leo to slink back fearing what your reaction would be. "Why didn't you just ask me that when I got here instead of making me do all that crap with the ribbon!? That would've been so much easier Leo. But yes I will accompany you on a date."
A blush the shade of a deep crimson rose in his cheeks while he scratched the back of his neck nervously. "I'm really sorry about that....I just needed a little time to work up the courage," he said as his eyes dropped down to the ground.
Any hint of frustration that had been left in your eyes had disappeared as your heart swelled at how cute and shy he could be for a 6 foot tall wall of green muscle. Once again you confirmed that you would go out with him and was about to be on your way when he scooped you up in an organ squeezing hug. Shaking quickly out of your surprise, you reciprocated the gesture. As you both stood, well he stood you dangled in his arms, Leo whispered gently in your ear the most sincere and gentle 'thank you' you had ever heard and it caused your heart to swell even more. Then just as quickly as he scooped you up, he placed you back down on the roof. Leaving dazed and a little breathless, he leaves by jumping onto a roof about 3 buildings. You don't make an attempt to call after him because you're a little too flustered to speak.
Flashback Over
Thinking back to that had calmed you significantly and had made you giggle, which you seem to be doing quite frequently these days. You took a mental note to punch Leo for being the cause of it. Now with newfound courage, you make your way to the door, scooping up your bag on your way. Once outside your building, you turn in the direction of Murakami's for your date. With giddiness and nervousness welling in your stomach, you quickly make your way to your first date with your blue clad ninja.
Okay, so to set this straight. I am officially the WORST author out there. Mainly for the ridiculously long wait. And for my crappy way of making it up to you with this sorry excuse. Ugh if I weren't in my current situation. I would have written like 10 chapters for you all. Please don't lynch me for this. Also I have written more on paper and I will update this thing even if it will be the death of me. If you all want be to rewrite this trainwreck, it will be done. But i at least wanted to give you SOMETHING. I also went back and read all of your comments and you all made me cry. I have such wonderful and supportive readers, you all really know how to encourage and inspire a gal. So thank you all so much. I kiss all your faces. MWAH. Til next time(hopefully soon), bye my butterflies!
