"Why are we here again?" Julie complained. Her foot kicking dust up from the floor beneath our feet.
"Because you didn't want to go with Claude, so (y/n) had to go to the library with him and you had to come here with me" I told her for the third time already.
"I know that. But Sebastian why are we here specifically. As in this cold creepy abandoned mansion in the middle of nowhere" She whined.
"Because we're here for clues and I think there might be something here that can help us." I told her
"I just need to remember where I left them""Where you left them?!?" She hissed at me.
"You mean you've been here before""Yes. I spent many years here before" I informed her.
"I was a butler to an annoying brat who preceded to reproduce this creating the annoying brat I have following me right now" I smirkedI felt her slap my shoulder. It was a playful tap and I nudged her back. "My great great great grandfather lived here? I mean is this really the house ceil lived in?" She breathed.
"Yes. This is the mansion I constructed after the original was burnt down. This building houses so many memories for me. Good, bad and ugly ones." I say breathing in the musty smell that had settled here. Ignoring that scent I found the ones I had been searching for, the burnt to a crisp meat from Bardroys cooking, the overpowering shoes polish Meyrin would use instead of wax, Finnian's overwhelming innocence displayed in the form of flowers and rain, then finally Tanakas favourite tea. All these smells would have a made a tear spring to my eyes if I didn't have a job to do.
Passing by the servants room I stretched my fingers out to stroke the doorknob. A habit I had made from when I used to have to constantly wake them up for work. It amazed me the impact they had all made on my life, an impact that if (y/n) hadn't opened my heart up I might have missed.
"How come this place is even still here? Dads will never mentioned any of this and you know she's not going to know" Julie's voice brought me back into reality.
"Before he died as payment for his families years of service to her majesty, she presented him with one wish. He asked if this house could be preserved so that future Phantomhives could drive strength from the symbol of it. He wanted it to be a safe haven for his further family, a gift for them when he was no longer there. His last order to me was to preserve this house...but anyway the queen declared that this house and its content be preserved by her law. And even the royalty now adhere to that decree" I told her, the memories of that day bringing a smile to my face.
"Wow. That's pretty awesome actually. So does that mean I could live here instead of my house in London?" She asks
"I suppose. Or you could live in both" I say purposely bumping into her.
"You need the room for all your clothes and big head""Oi! You little shi...." She growled.
"Just get your 'clues' so we can go. My house or not, it's giving me the creeps"
"There just in here. My old room"
With that I opened the door. I wish I hadn't though. Just looking at this room caused all my memories of me and my kitten together to come flooding back. It was in this very room she told me everything about her past, told me she loved me for the first time, the place we slept together for the first time. It was also the place we had our first fight, the place i fell completely in love with her. This room was the setting of some of the best memories of my life.
"What you thinking?" Julie asks placing a hand on my shoulder.
"This was my room. The place where we first confessed our love for eachother, Almost 130 years ago now. It feels like almost a lifetime ago now though"
"That's because it was. You've changed since then, the both of you have. I never seen you happier than with her, it's kinda of scary" She says leaning her head on my shoulder.
I brought my hand up to pat her cheek.
"Thanks Julie""Sebastian....." She whispers
"Yes"
"You really love this girl don't you? I mean I know your apparently soul mates and all, but you love her don't you? It's more than density isn't it"
"Much more. I didn't think I could ever love anything in my life. I thought this to be fact for almost 1000 years, but then she turned up and changed everything. I love her.
I more than love her. I need her to survive, those two days I thought she died I honestly had no idea what I was going to do with my life. I know that sounds pathetic but it's true. Is she truly died I think I would too" I admitted.
"I hope we stoop this guy. Then you can ride off into the sunset and have your well deserved happily ever after. I may only be human but I promise I will help as much as I can" She told me.
She wrapped her arms round my shoulders and I hugged her back.
"I promise you'll find your soulmate soon Julie. Then we can ride of into the sunset together. Just like I told you since you were little""Let's get these notes. Then let's go get this demon. Our fairy tale endings depend on it" She says grinning and I couldn't help but grin back.
There was a reason she was best friend and this was it. She reminded me the strength humans had, there perseverance and hope. It was infectious and I knew with her help we could actually make it. Yes she might be human but she never let that hold her back. She gathered her strength from it and I promise once all this is over I won't ever drag her back into this stuff. I'll let her live out her human live without having to risk her life for me anymore. I owe her that much.
With that I began digging through the draws in this room. I knew I had something here that could be the key to unlocking a few of the secrets surrounding the mystery I now found myself apart of. Just you wait Kitten. Julie and I won't let you down.
