"Friends, family, loved ones, I'm glad you could come today." The young priest said as he laid the hand on the casket "Obviously, our dearly departed was very loved" He walked around the casket "The crash not only took our friend, but put another one fighting for their life as we speak. But luckily, the other young lady in the car managed to make it safely out" The priest looked at me "And both Gabriel and Elizabeth would be glad their friend is okay"
It was like he was trying to comfort me, but I could barely make eye contact. Why was I the one still standing here? As the priest continued talking, Steven put a hand on my shoulder. He was there to make sure I didn't do anything drastic, but it wasn't really working, since I was considering jumping into the casket.
After the funeral, we went to the graveyard. I hugged myself, holding back sobs. They brought the casket from the hurse, and I ran over "Wait" I said, stoping the paul bearers "Can I just have a quick minute? I couldn't make the wake or pay my respects"
The men looked at each other and nodded "You just can't open it"
"Okay" I said as I laid my hand on the casket. I stared at it for a few minutes and gave a weak smile "I love you" I whispered and backed away, walking over to Steven and holding on to him as I cried.
Once they buried the casket, Steven and I drove back to Boston. "Are you okay?" He asked, noticing how quiet I was being.
"I will be" I whispered and looked out the window "Can we go to the hospital?"
"Of course"
Steven turned the car left instead of right and took me to the hospital. Without a word, I went to room 308 as quick as I could, Steven just behind me. He waited outside though as I walked in. Smiling, I sat down on the chair and looked at all the tubes connected to the body, wiping my eyes "The funeral was nice. You would have appreciated it." I said as I ran a hand through my hair "God, I'm sorry. It shouldn't be like this. You should be sitting in your house with me and having coffee and laughing." I closed my eyes tightly and started crying again "How did it get like this? I lost Gabriel, Lizzie, I can't lose you too. Please wake up" I looked at my best friend, still sleeping. I got up and walked out of the room calmly.
"Amy? Baby?" Steven said, approaching me.
"It's not fair!" I screamed and punched the wall, crying and falling to my knees, cradling my now hurt hand.
"Amy, it'll be okay, I promise" Steven helped me up and kissed my hand "Let's get some ice on that" He said and leaned in to kiss me, holding my hand still.
I nodded, teary eyed, and kissed Steven gently. I relaxed a little when I heard someone from behind Steven.
"Ameila Marie Hale, what are you doing?"
