Seasons of Wither

It was about one in the afternoon when I fell asleep. I couldn't believe I fell asleep when Steven was right there...

I woke up and blinked a few times, the brightly lit room irritating my tired eyes. I looked around and realized it wasn't my home, and I was laying on a couch. As my mind scrambled to remember where I was, I jumped and felt a scream rip through my body as I landed on the floor with a thud. I breathed in and out heavily as I pushed my upper body up, a blanket covering my legs.

Where was I?

"Amy?" I heard a voice call from a distance. I turned around, expecting to see Gabriel, but instead Steven.

Oh. Right.

"I'm sorry, I woke up and forgot where I was" I said quietly, standing up, licking my dry lips "I didn't mean to scare you."

"It's alright, I thought something happened" Steven said as he walked around the couch and stuck his arm out to help me up.

I stood up and smiled at Steven awkwardly "Uh, what time is it?" I asked, glancing out the window. It looked dark, so it could be evening or early morning.

"It's a little after seven. Are you hungry? I just finished making dinner. I hope you like pasta" Steven said, leading me to the dining room.

"I-" I wanted to say I wasn't, it was my usual response to food, but my stomach growled and I felt sick again. The cookie wasn't very filling, and it was about six hours ago "love pasta" I sighed and followed him into the dining room "Thank you."

I sat down at the table and sat awkwardly while Steven went to get the pasta. Shit, I should go and help him. Why was I just sitting there? I jumped to my feet and ran into the kitchen, watching Steven pour pasta into a large bowl.

"I'll take the bowl in" I offered. Steven happily handed over the pasta and I carefully brought it into the dining room.

Steven came back in with plates and glasses "What do you want to drink?" Steven asked as he put the items down. I went to get napkins and silverware.

"A water is fine. I can get it, is it in the fridge?" I asked as I set down the napkins and utensils.

"Yes, could you get me one too?" Steven asked.

I went to the refrigerator and took out two cold water bottles and walked them into the dining room, handing one to Steven and poured my water into the glass.

Dinner was as nice, like it was earlier. Steven and I continued to talk, even though it didn't seem like there was anything else to talk about.

At eight thirty I had gone outside to get a breath of fresh air, and saw five missed calls from Gabriel. I sighed sadly. He was probably so worried, but what could I say? I met a celebrity and stayed with him all day because I've enjoyed his company more today than I have with you in a month? I looked back inside, and saw Steven cleaning up.

I dialed Gabriel's number and walked into Steven's yard and let the snow fall on my bare arms. To my surprise, it wasn't Gabriel but my older brother, Lucas, who picked up.

"Amy! Where in the world are you? Gabriel said you went out hours ago and hasn't heard from you since! We've been driving around looking for you!" Lucas yelled into the phone. "Elizabeth and Dawn have been waiting for a call of ransom!"

"There is no need to be so dramatic!" I said, trying not to laugh. They were being a little silly, but laughing was probably a bad idea. "I uh, met a... old high school acquaintance" I lied, a little surprised at how easily I could "I've been with her all day, must have had my phone on vibrate, I'm sorry"

"Who is it?"

"Kristi" I said "Kristi McConnell."

"I don't remember her..." Lucas said

"Really? Well, we knew each other, though we weren't that close. I guess it's a little different now. I'm not sure if I'm going to sleep over her place or not. So if I'm not back in the next few hours I will be tomorrow morning" I said, and saw Steven coming outside "I should go. Goodbye" I continued, hanging up quickly.

"Who was that?" Steven asked as he put his hand on my shoulder.

"Just my older brother, he called before" I told him and smiled a little "It's freezing, can we go back in?" I asked. Steven nodded and lead me inside.

We walked into the living room and I looked up at Steven "Steven, could I hear one of your other songs? I know from a few your voice is.. honestly beautiful, I'd love to hear another.

Steven grinned "Sure. My phone is on the coffee table, it has my music on it."

I walked over and picked up his phone, and went through the music, clicking a song called "Seasons of Wither" since Steven mentioned it before. The music started playing and Steven started singing and I gasped "Oh, it's so nice." I giggled and bit my lip, swaying back and forth gently. It had just began and I was already loving it. I looked at Steven, who was watching me, and giggled again "Let's dance" I said, running up and taking his hands, walking to a spot with more room. He put his arms around my waist and I put mine around his shoulders, and we danced.

The memory makes me blush...

The song finished and I yawned. "How could I still be tired?" I thought out loud and sat on the couch.

"Do you want to spend the night and I'll take you home tomorrow?" Steven asked.

"I'd love that, if you don't mind" I said, laying down.

"Not at all baby" Steven put the blanket on me "Goodnight, Amy.

"Goodnight, Steven" I said and closed my eyes.
