Chapter 10

For the past two hours, Simon had been driving his car up and down the blocks surrounding his house. This was becoming his daily ritual. There was no way that girl had just disappeared. One minute she was in his bathroom and the next minute, she was gone. He would not give up his search until he found her. She was HIS!

He had even returned to the scene of the crime just to be sure she really existed. He hadn’t imagined her. The blood stains on the ground at the gas station, in his car, and on the rags in his living room proved that she had once been his and she would be again. It was only a matter of time.

When she reappeared, he would be right there ready to reclaim her, with or without her agreement.

When his stomach growled, he decided that he’d do one more trip around this block and then he was headed home to eat. No prize was worth going hungry to collect.

Jane was falling into a routine. She had been with the guys almost a week. She was walking to each room collecting each man’s dirty clothes. They were an easy bunch to clean for. They were tidy and picked up after themselves. This morning was quiet with the guys out, as usual. She had collected the laundry from the room she shared with Jax, then from Jordan and Davy’s shared room. By shared, she meant that each guy was very careful to keep to his own side of the room. Now she was headed to the smallest bedroom: Tate's.

She walked in headed straight for his dirty clothes loving the smell of his room. It smelled just like him. It was a clean, manly smell and she took a deep breath inhaling as much of the scent as she could. It was especially strong this morning meaning he must have recently left. She closed her eyes for a few seconds to savor it and almost jumped out of her skin when Tate said,” I’ve almost got you figured out.”

Her eyes shot open and her head whipped around to the corner of Tate’s room where his desk and computer were. Her hand flew to her chest and she let out a yelp as she noticed Tate seated at his computer.

“Oh my gosh, Tate! I had no idea that you were here. You scared me half to death,” she said as she worked to slow her heartbeat.

“Yeah, well I’ve been running some searches on you and that should put more than a little fear in you.”

Recovering quickly, she ran over to Tate’s side to look over his shoulder and peer at the screen. “Really? What have you found?” she asked excitedly.

“Nothing yet, but I am getting close.”

“Let me know if you learn anything. I can’t wait to find out who I am.” She said adding as an afterthought, “I think.”

With Tate scrutinizing her, she found herself very uncomfortable, not knowing what to do with her hands or where to look.

“Well, I’ve laundry to do.” Jane said and quickly retreated.

As Tate sat pondering Jane’s reaction to his search into who she was, he remembered the dinner party his parents’ were throwing this weekend and realized that it would be the perfect opportunity to see Jane’s true colors. When she discovered the opulence of his family, she would be falling all over herself to get into his family and get a piece of the pie. He might be jaded, but his family was even more so, being able to sniff out an imposter a mile away. They were experts in detecting a gold-digger’s MO and would swiftly expose and flay her. It was time Jane met her match.

Tate jumped up from his relaxed pose at his computer, ready to put the useless searches aside knowing that before the weekend was over, Jane would be revealing her own identity. He loped down the hall in search of her to turn the tables and show her his charming side. He would lay it on thick until she was so confused by it all that she didn’t know which end was up.

He was prepared to show Jane the weekend of her life…
