Chapter 10

Cruze

I leaned into the seat of Calli's new Acura and took a deep breath. I opened the door to get out, but Calli grabbed my arm. "If I hear that something went down here today.......I'ma fuck you up". He says. I gulped then nodded my head to show that I understood. Calli let go of my arm and I got out of the car. I closed the door gently because I didn't want to damage the black paint or the silver trim. I swung my new book bag over my shoulder and adjusted my chain. Since we were well into March, the air was getting warmer. I had small bags of weed at the bottom of my book bag protected by aluminum foil. I had to come up with some solution because I didn't want anyone to smell it. Calli pulled away as I went through the double doors of Central Queens High. Everyone in the halls starred at me as if I was a foreigner. They didn't know me and it was late into the school year so I understood. I walked down the long hallways. Since the school day hadn't started yet, everyone was just chilling and talking to their friends. I headed straight for the main office. Uncle Ronnie had taken me to see the school, but I had never been inside of it. I managed to find the main office easily. There was a plump, white lady seated behind her desk typing on her computer. I stood in front of her desk starring at her trying to get her attention.

"S'cuse me". I say

"What"? She asked not even bothering to look at me.

"Umm, today's my first day and I need a schedule".

"What's your name hon"?

"Careem Sheard". I say. The lady typed my name into the computer and I watched it do all of it's searching, then a schedule popped up on the screen and she printed it out and handed it to me.

"You know that we're well into the second semester and that we're almost finished with the school year". She says.

"Yes, I know". I reply.

"Did you move or something"?

"Yeah from Brooklyn".

"Okay hon, your locker number is on there and your permitted to buy your own combination lock. The bell is about to ring so if I were you I'd just head straight to class. School starts at eight o 'clock, and right now it's seven-fifty-six so just go".

"Okay". I say leaving the office. I headed straight for my homeroom which was my first period class of the day, Algebra 2. I went into the spacious classroom that smelled of pencil shavings. There were tables instead of desk with two chairs at each. I went to one and sat down. A woman entered the classroom and spotted me. Since I was the only kid in the room and she had never saw me before, she took off her glasses and starred.

"Are you new"? She asked. I nodded my head to her question. "Oh....well then, my name is Mrs. Bartock. I'm your algebra teacher". I loved how she just cut to the chase and didn't ask me allot of questions about who I was or why I came so late. She sat at her desk and we were silent the whole four minutes until the bell rang. It was like a none stop rattling of meddle as it hit the inner come. Sophomore kids started to flood into the algebra room eying me. My table was right in the middle of the room. I should have sat in the back. By the time the bell rang again, everyone was in the classroom seated all around me. I felt like a foreigner. I put on some of the new clothes that Calli had gotten me, got a new hair cut, I had a stud in my left ear, and I rubbed Vaseline over my tattoo. I was looking fresh and couldn't nobody tell me nothing. Mrs. Bartock went to the front of the class to introduce me. "Everyone we have a new student". She said pointing to me. "I don't think I have your name on my attendance sheet yet, but I'll check into it. By the way.....what is your name so the class will know"? I starred at her because for some reason I didn't want anyone to know my real name.
