Chapter 14

Cruze

It had been three weeks since I've been attending Central Queens high and I was starting to love every minute of it. I was starting to get known and I was gaining more friends and respect. Everybody thought I was a hard nigga once they saw that tattoo on my neck. School was a place for me to go and escape the nightmare of living with Calli. He had been going undercover looking for slick and one by one, he was killing more and more of Slick's niggas until he got answers. Today was Saturday and I was going out. Calli said that I could drive his Acura today and I got so geeked. I had gotten my tempts back before I came to Queens, but since I was no longer living with my grandmother, I was no longer going to drivers ed. I was permitted to drive with an adult in the car, but I was a savage. I was not about to take Diamond out with my Uncle Ronnie riding in the front seat tagging along. What you thought this was? I stood in the mirror fixing my up my outfit. It was 1994 so I had to dress up to date to impress Diamond. I wanted her to think that I had a good taste in clothes at all times. I had on a black wife beater, a plaid, long-sleeved button down shirt that had all shades of blue in it, black, crisp jeans, and blue and black shell toe Adidas. I was trying to be like snoop-dog rocking' my shell toes. I slapped on cologne, put on my new rolex that Calli got me out of the blue, and put on a silver chain with a huge cross on it. It was almost eleven o'clock in the morning and everyone was still asleep. I checked my pager then grabbed my black Nautica pea coat and slipped it on, then I grabbed Calli's car keys, my wallet, and pager. I dipped out of the house and hopped into Calli's Acura and started it up. I had to go pick up Diamond from the twins house over on the south end. I was nervous to go down there. I was afraid that someone on Slick's team would notice me. I mentally followed the map in my head trying to remember the address that Diamond had given me. I drove the long way over high-ways and by-ways, weaved through traffic, and made left and right's until I finally pulled up at a worn out complex of four town houses. I honked my horn three times. I had told Diamond to be ready by eleven-thirty this morning and it was about that time. I honked again, then I saw someone look through the blinds. The front door finally opened and Diamond stepped out wearing a blue, Baby Phat jogging suit. Her zip up jacket looked too small on purpose, and the matching pants hugged her hips just right. She had white and blue, high top Reebok's on her feet and she had the largest hoop earrings that I've ever seen hanging from her ear lobes. Her hair was in a side ponytail that was held high on her scalp, and the fake, silky, brown hair dangled to her shoulder making her look sexy. I watched Diamond skip down the wooden steps and stop at the car. I took another good look at her. Her body looked phenomenal in that outfit and she had no shirt under that too small jacket. Her flat stomach was showing just a little and I could see a small beauty mark on the left side of it. I licked my lips at her then I opened my door, stepped out of the car and leaned on the roof. "What you waitin' on"? I asked. "Get in".

"How you drivin' and you fifteen"? She asked me.

"I got my tempts. I'm alright".

"Yeah, but that ain't no license....".

"Who gives a fuck.......just get in". I say, and she did. I got back in the car and I saw the twins waving as I pulled away. "Ain't you gon be cold without a jacket"? I asked trying to be funny.

"The question is, aren't you going to be hot.......it's not that cold out today". She said. I watched the road and for a while we rode in silence.

"So where we headed"? Diamond asked breaking the ice as I was speeding out of the south side.

"The mall". I say. I watched her pull out a large roll of money from her bra. Damn, she was ballin. "Dang, where you get all that cash from"? I asked. I had to know.
