Chapter 4-
I gave Terry his fare and clambered drunkenly out of the car. “Mollie, are you alright to make it in? I’ve got to make it back to my wife.” Terry asked concerned.
“Yeah Terry, get back to Jeanette and the kids, I‘ll be fine I promise.”
“If you’re sure, call me next time you want to see lover boy again. I’ve got his address saved in my sat nav.”
“Thanks Terry, and don’t worry I will.” I smiled and waved as he drove off into the distance. I turned to the gates and gave them tentative push, damn, locked. I spied a tree with low branches out of the corner of my eyes. I walked over and threw my bag and heels over the gated fence. I mounted the tree, climbing just high enough so that I could jump down over the other side.
Hanging from the branch, I checked the grounds for any signs of a nearby security guard or dog, I couldn’t see any signs of movement, so I dropped from the tree and landed very ungracefully on my bum. I picked up my shoes and my bag and ran as quietly as I could through the shadows. Suddenly ‘Sexy and I know it’ starts playing out of nowhere and it takes me a while to realise that Tess is calling me, with the ringtone she set for herself. As soon as I realise I pick up immediately. “Mollie, babe where are you?”
“You won’t believe this but I’m in the grounds, near the balcony, could you throw down the ladder?”
“Haha, you packed it this year, I knew we’d need it. Where’s it hidden?”
“Its in the bathroom, third tile above the dials in the shower.”
“Do I want to ask?”
“It’s the only place they wouldn’t think to check, it’s also big enough to hide our phones, and alcohol. Also maybe condoms and the pills.”
“I’ll chuck it down now then. Are you underneath?”
“Yeah.”
“Watch your head hun. Theres a carrier bag at the bottom to put your shoes and bag in as well.”
“Good idea.”
I stepped back and watched as a ladder lowered to the ground. As soon as it was low enough I gave it two quick tugs so she knew I was about to start climbing. All I can say is I’m glad I took PE, after fifteen minutes of climbing the flimsy rope ladder I finally made it to the top where I was met with Tess drinking a Cosmopolitan.
“Are you still drinking?”
“Do you want to fall back down?”
“Fair point. How was your evening?”
“It was interesting. Yours?”
“Eventful, now would you help me over so I can tell you about it?” She laughed and hauled me over the railing, managing not to spill a drop of her cocktail.
“So what’s the goss then Moll?”
“Well, let’s just say I met this guy, and I really like him, and I mean really like him. There are butterflies and sparks and fireworks, and I only just met him. You know what I mean?” I smiled to myself as I pulled up the ladder to get the bag with my shoes and clutch in.”
“Mollie, I think this is it. Can you picture a future with him?”
“I can see four little kids running around and they all look like me and him. Ohmigosh! I said I’d call him!” I ran inside passing the ladder to Tess, who miraculously didn’t spill any of her drink.
After a quick phone call, and deciding that he would text me the next day with details of our dinner plans we bid our farewells and I turned my attention back to Tess who was grinning at me like the cheshire cat.
