Chapter Eighteen- Marnie’s POV
Britain had actually been ok, it snowed, Mollie’s dyed my hair twice now, and I have four amazing friends, not to mention I’m crazy popular. Libby and I share a dorm now, but it’s not with the other year sevens. It’s on the top floor, next door to Mollie and Tess. Libby’s old roommates didn’t mind, they weren’t exactly friends with her in the first place, they were actually quite horrible. And Levi, Beck and Finn share a dorm a well. But they’re with the other year sevens. Mr Harrison and Ryan are having chats to see if I can actually join year seven and be a normal student. And I’m really excited. It’s nearly Valentines Day and Levi’s taking me out, did I forget to mention that we’re dating now.
I walked into the apartment and shut the door quietly. I could hear loud voices, coming from the kitchen. I walked over slowly to the couch in the living room, and sat down on the end where they couldn’t see. “Ryan, she’s my little sister. I know her better than you.” I heard Mollie yell in a tone I had never heard her use before.
“Well why don’t you show her then. Maybe if you do she wouldn’t be out on the street right now, she could get raped, or abducted and even murdered!” He yelled back.
“Ryan! She went down the high street with her mates, like a normal kid. The fact that she’s a year younger doesn’t matter. At least she has nice friends and a lovely boyfriend; I couldn’t have picked better myself.”
“Maybe you should be dating Levi instead of me then. Or get back with Freddie.” He spoke strangely calm.
“Ryan you know what I meant.” I heard Mollie pleading, sounding desperate.
“Do I?” At that point I decided to get up and open and close the door, pretending I hadn’t just caught the end of their argument.
“Mollie? Ryan? I’m home.” I called cheerfully, although not feeling cheerful at all.
“Marnie? We’re in the kitchen.”
“Coming.” I walked in to see Mollie with tears streaming down her face, her mascara making black rivers down her cheeks. My first reaction was to run straight over and give her a big hug. “Mollie, are you ok?” I whispered against her stomach.
“Yeah, I was just about to get our stuff together, we’re going back to school.”
“Why?” I asked faking confusion.
She knelt down and looked into my eyes, holding my hands tight. “When you get older you start to realise that at first glance somebody can be everything you want, everything you need, but then later on you realise that they weren’t who you thought they were at all.”
“Deep.” Ryan muttered sarcastically, as Mollie threw him a subtle glare.
“Are you two breaking up?” I asked confused, I mean it was a heated argument, but they were meant to be together weren’t they?
“We’re just taking a little break in our relationship.” Mollie said softly, as though I was five.
“So you’re breaking up?” I asked her again.
“Yes.” Ryan nodded, “I’ve called you a cab.”
“Thanks.” I smiled; I knew Mollie wasn’t going to thank him.
“What no hug?” He smiled warmly, opening his arms for me. I walked over to him and he picked me up, enveloping me in a bear hug. “You know that you’re always welcome here.” He whispered in my ear. I nodded. Once he’d put me down her ruffled my hair. “See you at school kiddo.”
“Bye Ry, see’ya at school.” I smiled at him.
“Bye Doll.” He waved meekly, looking as if he would cry. Mollie just gave him a weak smile in acknowledgement, and towed me out the apartment, towards the elevator, taking us to the ground floor and back to school.
