Fourteen

Angelica awoke to the sound of Cadance's voice.

"They're back," she said quietly, probably referring to the guards.

Angelica looked down at Blaise, making sure he was still asleep. He was, but he had moved his arm from hugging her to holding his hip. She looked at herself, knowing that she had more of his blood on her nightgown,

She heard as the guards walked down the cell hallway toward their cluster of cells, the only ones that seemed to be occupied for some reason.

"So, you three are the ones who saw the Princess's little boyfriend run away?" She heard a guards voice say, loud and intimidating.

"That we are," Todd said.

"How did he manage to get the shackles off?" The guard asked. Angelica didn't think about that part, the only way to take off shackles that tight was to burn them off or get them off with the key, and the cells and torture chamber were magic proofed apparently, so he couldn't have burned them off.

"We didn't see," Lotus explained, which was true.

"We only saw him run out the door," Cadance said, still in monotone.

"What'd you say, monotone? He ran out the door?"

"Not literally, dipshit," Cadance said, "more like he hobbled out the door, couldn't even walk straight."

"I see..."

"I don't think he could've made it far, his wounds looked bad," Lotus said.

"That's what I keep saying, he's probably dead, bled out," the guard said, "We'll be finding a corpse somewhere in the palace."

Angelica shuddered at the thought of Blaise dying in the palace, gently stroking his hair.

"Wouldn't surprise me one bit," Todd said.

"Well, thanks for giving me information," the guard said, walking back down the hall. "Now to find that idiot princess and her boy-toy," he mumbled, loud enough they could all hear.

Angelica scoffed silently, not able to believe someone who was supposed to protect her was calling her an idiot.

The door slammed, followed by Cadance's monotone. "Coast is clear," she said.

"I can't believe he called you an idiot!!" Lotus said, obviously thinking the same thing as Angelica.

"I know," she said, yawning softly. "What time is it?"

"7," Todd said, "We already got dinner. I tried to save you some but it was gonna be cold by the time you woke up anyway so I just ate it."

"It's seven?" Angelica asked, not caring about dinner, "When do the guards get off?"

"Their shift-change is at 9," Cadance explained. "There won't be any guards from 9 to 10, that's probably when Devin will come."

Angelica wanted to get out from under the bed, but she didn't want Blaise laying on the cement again, so she just stayed in the same place. "Wow, only two hours?"

"Yep," Todd said.

"I'll miss you, probably Blaise too, but I didn't really get to talk to him," Lotus laughed.

"I'll miss you too, Lotus," Angelica said.

"I think I'll miss Blaise, I've been talking to him a bit," Cadance said.

"You have?" Angelica asked.

"Yeah, he's a nice guy," Cadance said.

"How long have you been talking to him for?" Angelica asked, a bit alarmed. "Why didn't you tell me?"
