Trials

Tsunade, Sakura, and I all agreed that my med training would start after the trials so I could focus on my representative duties.

Both the women were questioning why I was so set on setting them free.

"Well I find their current situation inhuman, I didn't risk my ass capturing them as they were just for them to live the rest of their lives as a vegetable. Also seeing as they can never escape me, I thought their skills could be put to better use other than mercenaries."

They accepted my reasoning and tsu dismissed me to start my work.

Two weeks later

I had barely slept since that day in Tsunade's office, non stop research of the lives of the Akatsuki.

I discovered that they are in fact conscious which caused some slight anger on my part but it made things easier when discussing their cases.

They all agreed that they would be completely truthful and even allowed their memories to be shown as proof if I thought it was needed.

Now I'm standing in the front of the Hokage mountain before tsunade and the elders who sit on a raised platform.

We would have done it inside but the entire bloody village wanted to see this.

Everyone was chattering till tsunade called for silence.

"The trial of the first Akatsuki member shall now commence!"

And all was silent.

Down the middle of the crowd nagato came walking flanked by two guards that held both his arms.

Taking a quick glance at Sakura I saw here eyes narrow in suspicion.

When the red haired man was beside me, I saw his eyes were far more tired then what his body language suggested.

The rest of the Akatsuki members were brought in a similar fashion, except they were placed on a bench behind me.

All looked like they were healthy, not like they had spent two months half dead, rotting away in a cell.

Tsu was about to speak when I cut her off.

"Hokage-sama" I got a few surprised looks at my respectful tone.

"I have a few things to say before the trial starts."

She nodded for me to continue.

"First off, the Akatsuki are no longer a threat to the leaf and Nagato-San will plead guilty to all crimes the Akatsuki committed as an organization. He will accept any punishment given by the Hokage so long as the rest of the members are not held accountable for the crimes they committed while an Akatsuki member."

Everyone looked shocked at my statement.

Koharu scoffed, "and why should we agree to this?"

I closed my eyes, "because he made every decision, Pein was simply a puppet controlled by nagato from the shadows. Also the Akatsuki are ninja, and ninja follow their leaders orders. You can't blame an individual for following the orders of their superior, it would be the same as me carrying out the order to spy on a enemy village or kill the target of a client.

Nagato was also had desire for vengeance as his parents were killed in the third shinobi war by Konoha shinobi who had broken into his home to steal food. As such he sees that he has a responsibility to pay for his actions and does not wish to drag everyone else into paying for his choices."

After my speech I stepped back to let them ponder my words.

"What is the benefit of this action they are still criminals and were as such before joining the Akatsuki."
