I sat in the chair against my will as my eight year old sister, Kaila, practiced her makeup skills on me. I'm pretty sure she only does this to me for her own amusement, especially since she despises makeup. You see, Kaila is a tomboy which I'm beyond grateful for, because our love for sports makes us close. I'd do anything for my sister and she knows it which is why I think she only tortures me for a good laugh. She stood on a stool in front of me so that she had full access of my face. As she begins to put lipstick on me, my phone rings on the table behind her.
"I'll get it!" She chimed, turning to pick it up. She put the phone to her ear as she faced me, continuing her lipstick assault.
"Hi Seth!" She says into the phone.
"Hey Kai! Can I talk to Jett?" I hear my cousin ask from the opposite end of the line. Kaila smirked.
"Sorry he's a bit busy right now." She says causing me to roll my eyes to which she then smacked me on the forehead. "Ow!"
"Please Lil' Kai?" Seth begged. Lil' Kai is the nickname that Seth gave Kaila when she was born, that and spider monkey. "Fine!" She groaned, before handing me the phone.
"Hey!" I say into the phone.
"Is it just me or is she getting more dramatic?" He asked. I chuckled.
"It's not just you!" I comment, earning a glare from my baby sister. "Thank god! I was getting worried that it was just me!" He instantly replied. I shook my head and smiled.
"So, what's up?" I ask.
"Nothing, why?" He replied.
"Well, did you have a reason to call?" I asked.
"Oh yeah! I forgot! The boys and I were planning to go to the rink, you in?" He asked. I grinned.
"I'm definitely in!" I say, excitedly.
"Cool! Be there in five to pick you up!" He says, hanging up the phone shortly after. I look up to see Kaila glaring at me with her hands on her hips.
"You're ditching me?" She asked.
"Just for a few hours." I reassured her, but a pout still made it's way onto her face. I reached out and pulled her onto my lap. "What if I bring you home donuts?" I asked. Her eyes lit up like a Christmas tree.
"Okay! Have fun then!" She called as she exited the room. I chuckled before standing and walking across the hall to my room. I pulled on a black hoodie and slipped on my cardinal, gold and grey letterman jacket. Though it's summer, Fairbanks has been getting hit hard with rain. I grabbed my large gear bag and a couple of my goalie sticks.
Walking downstairs towards the front door, I passed the living room where my mom sat watching tv, while Kaila sat at the dining room table, drawing.
"Hey mom, I'm going to the rink with Seth for a few hours!" I say as I pull the hood of my sweatshirt over my head. "Okay! Have fun sweetheart!" She replied with a smile. I grabbed my gear before running out into the pouring rain to Seth's Chevy Tahoe, throwing my gear into the back and climbing into the passenger seat. I pulled the hood down and noticed Seth smirking at me.
"What?" I asked.
"I'm digging the new look!" He chuckled. I furrowed my brow in confusion.
"What new look?" I pry. He nodded at the visor, causing me to pull it down and look into the small mirror. I groaned when I saw the makeup on my face.
"By the way, pink isn't your color!" Seth snickered, referring to the lipstick. I growled at him as I reached into my gear bag and grabbed a small towel, immediately wiping the makeup off of my face. "If you say-"
"Don't worry, I won't say anything to the team. I don't feel like getting attacked by a werewolf today." He interrupted. I couldn't help, but chuckle at my cousins remark.
Within about ten minutes, we pulled into our school parking lot. I pulled the hood over my head again before hopping out of the car and grabbing my gear. I met Seth at the front of his car and we made our way into our school's small hockey arena. Right as we enter the locker room, I see the Reynolds brothers. Keegan is seventeen like Seth and I, while his brother, Kyler is sixteen. They both sat on a bench, tying their skates. As if on cue, the brothers simultaneously looked up.
"Hey guys! Took you long enough!" Keegan chuckled. I shrugged before dropping my gear.
"Not my fault Seth drives like a grandma!" I say in my defense. Seth rolled his eyes. We both quickly put our gear on, though Seth was forced to wait for me, because being a goalie, it takes longer to get my gear on. When we walked out of the locker room, I saw both Keegan and Kyler, along with four other teammates. Parker Rhodes, Chad Griffin, Talon Knight and Cade Palmer. Out of all of them, I'm probably closest to Cade, even though he's the youngest at fifteen, he's my back up. Since he first joined the team last year, I've taken him under my wing. He's been like a little brother to me.
Cade and I took the ice so that we could stretch a little. The eight of us decided that we'd play a game of three on three with both Cade and I in goal. We were also the team captains so we could pick our team. Since Cade is the youngest, I allowed him to pick first. His brown hair went in all directions beneath his helmet while his blue eyes scanned the group.
"Seth." He said. Seth came to stand beside Cade.
"Keegan." I say and he skates over to me. He stands a couple inches taller than me, with brown hair and brown eyes.
"Kyler." Cade said. Unlike Keegan, Kyler is a couple inches shorter than me, but shared the same hair and eye color as his brother.
"Chad." I call. He stands at least three inches taller than me, with reddish brown hair and brown eyes.
"Talon." Cade says. I sigh in relief, knowing that the crazy one is now on Cade's team. Talon stands slightly taller than Chad. His reddish blonde hair and big green eyes just add to the crazy look of his features.
"Parker." I quickly call. He is roughly, Talon's height. His dirty blonde hair and green eyes, stand out behind his face mask.
At the end of our little pick up game, my team had won 5-0. Seth glared at me, every chance he got. He knows the main reason of why I'm a good goalie, but he also knows that there's nothing I can do about being a werewolf, I was born this way.
After another hour or so of us goofing off, we decided to call it a night. I easily convinced Seth to stop at Dunkin' Donuts on our way home. He and I each bought a box of donuts to take home. Once Seth dropped me off, I quickly grabbed my gear and donuts and ran into the house, trying to avoid the rain as much as possible. When I entered the house, I dropped my gear bag near the front door before carrying the donuts into the kitchen. My mom sat at the dining room table doing some work.
"Hey mom." I say, causing her to look up.
"Oh good, you're home! We need to talk." She said. I gave her a questioning look as I set the box of donuts on the counter. "Okay. About what?" I asked. She sighed while running her hands down her tired face. I went from being curious to being concerned. Is mom okay? Is Kaila okay? I needed to know what's got my mom so stressed out.
"We have to move."
