Gerard Arthur Way, the twenty-four year old brother of Michael James Way, was driving home one night; it was nearing midnight. Slowly, but surely, Gerard was losing his grip.
The line between sleep and alertness was blurring fast for him. His head felt heavy. Occasionally, he would slightly swerve or feel his head drop and he'd be back on track.
It happened to everyone occasionally. The office would force an impossible deadline on you that you'd need to stay overtime to complete. He had just finished the drafts for the new cartoon. His pride towards his detailed drawings still lingered.
If only he had fallen asleep anywhere else. If he were near the woods, a tree would have stopped him. If he were in public, hopefully no one would be in a building if he had accidentally hit it. But no. He slipped into the comforting grips of sleep on the bridge.
It happened so fast, that Gerard didn't even really know what happened. First he was going 55 miles per hour across the bridge, then his car was airborne as it plunged into the large body of water beneath him.
That was more than enough to get him alert again. Gerard slipped out of his seat belt and tried to stay afloat, hoping someone would've called the police or an ambulance.
The disgusting salty water was going in and out of his nose and mouth as his panicked lungs tried to keep pace with this sudden change. Gerard's thoughts were blurred; more murky than the water he was swimming in. He wasn't thinking right.
It was tiring, but the adrenaline pumping through Gerard's veins kept him alive that night. Within time, a helicopter was hovering above him with a nice woman who offered a life jacket as he was lifted to a hospital.
Gerard was back to normal in a few days. Well, physically. Emotionally, Gerard wouldn't even get in the car with his younger brother. He walked out of the hospital, seemingly fine.
When Mikey pulled up and Gerard walked to the door, he broke down. He shook his head no as Mikey tried to get him to settle down and get in the car.
Gerard refused. It triggered something that wasn't there before-- fear.
And with that, Gerard was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Inbox me to join my kik group, or the other admins PlanetaryKilljoy or Ukulele_Boy . Thank you so much for reading, and keep an eye out for the next chapters!
