“Trading numbers makes it official,” she says. So when Miss Jorgia steps out of the classroom, Alexandria flips out her cell phone and asks Jamie for his number.

“W-why?” he asks.

She licks her lips and raises her eyebrows slowly, as if the question is ridiculous. “Y’know, so I can text you inappropriate messages or call you and make plans to hang out and stuff . . . “

He asks again, “Why?”

“Because you’re my friend, and don’t deny it! You agreed to it the first day we met.”

Jamie stares, wondering if he’s just attracted a psychopath-in-training. Alexandria snorts loudly, and a few students glare at her. One of them is Jean, only he looks more curious before looking away.

Jamie gives in and tells her his number.

“I think you’re getting used to me,” she says.

“I feel sorry ‘cause you’re crazy,” he says. Her next laugh is loud to the point Miss Jorgia rushes back into the classroom, slating her eyes at her. Alexandria covers her mouth, laughter making her body vibrate.

“Yeah, I think we’ll be great together,” she squeaks, and Jamie has to smile at that.
