Jamie dreams of made up events and real ones from days, even years, ago. He must not be dead. He’s pretty sure had he died, there’d be nothing. His soul and mind would’ve obliterated into a black hole and that would have been the end of him. He guesses at least, he’s not for sure. Maybe he is dead but he’s in a purgatory-type place.
He wishes he had all the answers.
Every so often Jamie wakes up to see himself in a bleak room with sheets covering him that aren’t warm enough. Then he gets too dizzy so he falls back asleep for a few minutes or an hour.
At one time he wakes up and hears a woman’s voice say, “He should be fully conscious in about thirty minutes. He’ll be a little distorted, but fine for the most part.”
Now he knows for a fact he didn’t die.
He’s not disappointed, but he’s not glad either.
