The bells have rung again, and I haven't even seen a glimpse of Kaitlyn all day. It feels so... off. I've only known of her a week and she most likely already has me unknowingly whipped. I live for the glimpses I get, and can't help but attempt to follow her, regardless if I become late to class.
Mate, sighs Missy, almost dreamily. Then, worried, mate? Something's wrong!
"Something's wrong," I mutter to Starr, as the school empties.
No sooner than her alert questioning of "What?!" does both Selene and Venus come running from the junior hallway's direction.
Their faces are panicked and almost seem terrified.
"Mystic! MYSTIC!!!!!!" Shouts Venus, causing the few lingering Streakmates to freeze shocked. Her voice is unmistakably terrified.
"What is it?" I demand, as Starr and I speed up.
"Come quick! In your sister's classroom!"
Starr and I tear after them as this invisible, but heavy weight settles over me, restricting my breathing.
Just as we reach the door, an ear-piercing scream almost brings me to my knees.
Even if I had tried to steal myself against what I was going to most likely walk in on, it wouldn't have helped.
Nothing would have prepared me for seeing my one true love manicly pounding the ground, almost curled in a ball, screaming and whimpering her head off.
The force of her pain has me stumbling backwards into Selene. I groan as it radiates though my body.
If I'm feeling even a empath's fraction of what she's feeling, then she's in downright agony. Making me in emotional agony.
"My mate! Kaitlyn! Kaitlyn! Speak to me, what's wrong?!" I start to rush over before Bast stops me.
I growl at her, and Missy's power leaks though a bit.
She winces, because although she is the current Bast, I am the true- born Bast. I'm to be the Queen of the Streak. I am the Bast.
And right now Ksoylk, no matter is she's my sister, is keeping me from my mate, who is in trouble.
Ksoylk swallows a few times and slowly explains, "You could get hurt, or she could get hurt."
I glare hard at her. The audacity! As if my mate would intentionally hurt me, or she I! I'll take anything unintentional, if it helps her.
I shove her off with a glare before hesitantly approach my mate.
Her white hair is practically molded to her, soaked in sweat. Her gorgeous blue eyes are hidden behind clinched close eyes that are streaming tears and she panting between screams.
Her fists occasionally pound the ground and I'm afraid if I don't restrict her she'll break something. Her lower half is curled into her chest, shaking.
"Kaitlyn?" I ask and I carefully get next to her, and grab her fists.
She lets out a strangled gasp.
Has she already broken something? Oh goddess.
I pull her quivering body into my lap as much as possible, restricting her fists, which are both still jerking about.
She screams again and my heart clinches painfully. I look pleadingly to my sister. "What do I do? What do I do?"
She gives me look I suppose is supposed to be assuring, "It's what do we do?" She turns to Selene and Venus. "Call the Streakdoc! Tell them it's an emergency and to get the school now!"
"Why can't we take her to our territory? Less of a chance of being exposed?" Asks Selene as Venus grabs her phone to make the call, leaving the classroom.
I will to do anything to get my mate out of the excruciating pain she's in. If I'm feeling even a fraction of her hurt, she won't be able to handle it much longer as she is.
"We can't take any chances with her situation, remember?" Ksoylk explains, but Selene, Starr, and I clearly don't get it. "She's been here since she died. I mean, she's stuck here. She said she hasn't spoken to anyone and I've watched her whenever possible. She's always here. When we get here, when we leave. When I leave, as the last person in the school, she's always standing on the roof of the building by the faculty parking lot-"
"The library! That's the library!" Selene interrupts, her deep thinking face on.
My poor lonely mate. She's stuck here, and not just here- here, but plane- here, and it's all my fault. If she wasn't my mate, she would have probably been able to move on. If I hadn't have been so excited and wanted to prove I could think of something challenging, she wouldn't have died. It's all on me.
Whatever is going on now is probably connected to me as well.
"She's on her way." Venus exclaims, as she turns to Starr. "Greenl-"
"Starr!" Greenlin shouts, entering without looking. "Have you seen the future Bast?"
I growl lowly. Not this again.
"Oh, uh, there you are- Wait what's her problem? She looks dreadful!"
I snarl at him, "GO AWAY!" I start to try to stand up, still cradling my broken mate.
Starr, as much as she dislikes her brother, still has a sense of family, and starts to worriedly shove him out. "Let's go stupid, before she tears your head off. Stupidly saying something about her mate! What's wrong with yo...."
He slips immediately from my mind, as he is that unimportant.
My mate, on the other hand, is the most important. Besides, what happens next will make me forget he was even here today.
Missy (who I didn't realize was missing) suddenly reappears, her presence almost overwhelming. It's Azalea!
The panic in her voice makes me even more scard.
"What the hell is an Azalea!?!?!" I can't tell if I'm speaking to just her or if it's being broadcasted to everyone.
"A plant...?" A confused Selene answers.
No, agonized Missy, Azalea...
Her whimper is so powerful it echoes though my mouth on its own accord.
Azalea is the other half of our mate. She's trapped...
My legs finally give, and I fall to my knees, taking Kaitlyn with us.
Their pain is our pain.
"Their pain is our pain."
"What?" Asks multiple voices from far away.
We can feel Kaitlyn relax a bit and we look down to see her body go slack, her full weight on us.
"Their pain is our pain." Our voice is throat-y, but full of love and, now, oozing-hot-scorching pain. "Their pain is our pain."
"Oh shit," I barely hear my sister say, as my vision is overcome by black fuzzy stuff, "Her shift! Azalea is Kaitlyn's shift! What's... CATCH TH-"
