Anger

"Get the hell off me! I already told you- I. Do. Not. Know. Where. He. Went! Jeez, come on, I promise! You're my Alpha, I'm loyal to you, as I should be!"

"That didn't stop your brother," I snarl, partially shifted, unable to go all the way even if I tried due to Missy's absence. "What's to say you didn't assist him? The-"

"You don't know it was him!" Star shouts, still uselessly trying to remove me from my crouch over Teegan. I look up at her, ignoring his continued protests and his mate's pleas from somewhere behind me, as she's held back by her sister.

"How was it not him? Fucking Raegan disappears during the night, and it just happens to coincide with a break in and theft of MY MATE? I don't believe th-"

Missy slams back into my consciousness, exhausted and incoherently babbling, causing me to cluch my head in agony and roll in a ball, pinned to the forest floor.

After a few minutes of Missy's static-like babbling blocking everything out, I vaguely feel my head snap to the side, sounds of a distant scuffle, and a soft voice cycling between our names.

"-issy. Mystic. Missy, calm down or whatever it is will not solved. Mystic, focus on my voice rather than Missy. Come back to us, then listen to Missy when she's calmed down. This is not good for either of you. Missy. Mystic..."

A few minutes of listening to the voice and following directions, and I can successfully open my eyes, zeroing into the ones before me. They soften the blow of my missing mate for a moment, as they are a replica of her's. The moment is a short one, for as similar they are, there is just as much different. They're missing the sparkle that is uniquely my mate's. The sparkle she doesn't share with her sister, with anyone else in the world, ever.

I feel like crying. Missy's babbling only makes the feeling stronger.

Thank goddess Missy passes out and I can think a little clearer.

I don't know what to do.

"What do you want to do? What do you think you should do?" She interrupts me before I actually do start to cry.

"W-what?"

"You heard me! Pull it together!" She yells at me.

Yup, the looks are all that is similar between my mate and this mutt.

"... like really, what the fuck? Get your shit together, oh almighty Bast! We have to go find my sister-"

I slap my hands on the ground next to me in outrage, "You didn't even know about her until like last week!"

She looks at me with a shocked and scandalized expression. "The fuck? You didn't know about her a few months ago!"

"You didn't even know she died!"

"Because you killed her!"

Everything stops- the whispering, the darting, avoiding eyes, my breathing, everything.

Remedy slaps her hands over her mouth, gasping. "I didn't mean that," she says, after a very pregnant pause.

Everyone looks at me, holding their breath, waiting for my response.

I stand up, and Remedy takes a few steps backward, fear evident in her eyes. After brushing the dirt off my palms onto my shorts, I clap my hands together with an awkward clap. "Well what are y'all all just standing there for? We got home and find out what they know."

I turn, walking into the forest, leaving them to hesitantly follow me in silence. Or not follow me. I really don't care right now.

While I know she really didn't mean it, and I get her points, she didn't say anything I hadn't told myself and tried to reason against myself already.

Pushing it all away, I head in the general direction of the way out, thinking back on a conversation from last week and the odd look from Remedy that suddenly makes sense.

I'd just never seen it before, directed at me.

"You know, I kinda sorta did have a crush on you in middle school..."

I look at her amused, "But not in highschool?"

"Well, after my accident I didn't see the point in liking anyone..." she trails off, looking away.

I look away, guilty.

Remedy looks up. "What accident? Why would that effect anything?"

I look back at her sharply, then glance at Venus.

Kaitlyn looks over her coloring page, and casually continues on, "Yeah, dying kinda kills all your dreams. Hey, Mys," she drops her marker with a ta-da gesture, picking up her page, "What do you think?"

I was blown away. "T-That's me!" And it was, next to the cartoonish dog she'd colored was a drawing of me all the way to my black ankle converse.

"I told you I was drawing something cute," she leans over, kissing my cheek. My whole body warms up with love and warmth.

"Damn you're too good for me," I grin, leaning into her.

Remedy says something I can't quite hear, breaking me out of matebliss. Venus is leaning away from her, and she's giving me a blank look while Remedy mutters, "nothing". She looks at me quickly before burying her face into Venus's shoulder.

I wonder what her problem is-

"Hey baby, wanna walk me home? I want to spend more time with my brother before something happens. You guys are leaving soon anyway."

I got up, "Sure, I would be honored- wait, we're leaving soon? How do you know?"

She shrugs as we start off, "I don't know, I just do..."

I looked back once more, as we turned the corner, when I felt eyes on me. They didn't feel friendly, but Remedy looks away quickly before I could identify the emotions in her eyes.

It was instant hate and distrust and blame.

They all trail after me, and the rest of the afternoon is quiet, everyone giving everyone space.

The camp that night is quiet and lonely as well.

Missy stirs from passing out when she slammed back into me hours ago. 'What- where are we and how long until we can see them?'

My heart breaks a second time as she flips though our shared memory and sees that they're lost to us.

'No. No. We'll get them back, we will!'

I nod, and she passes out again.

Will we?
