"Seriously?" I demand, "Where the hell is my brother?!"
Star raises an eyebrow. "Your brother? Since when do you have a brother?"
That stops me for a moment. When did I completely- even subconsciously- accept Aidan as my brother? "Since the dork started helping us. I don't know about you guys, but he's family. He left everything he knew for us for no reason I can see-"
She rolls her eyes, "Yada yada yada. Yes, he gave up everything for us. More like he got himself out of a terrible situation and teamed up with the only way out. Teamed himself with the strongest so he'd be safe!"
Her anger normally would have swayed my own emotions, as I am more easily swayed by those closest to my heart, but Aidan almost instantly reached almost the same status as she. Its a weird Empath thing. All Streak are family, but family - family goes deeper.
Instead, I'm irritated. "That's a bit harsh, isn't it? Maybe it's why he thinks he's here, but you have to believe everything happens for a reason-"
"Like you really believe that! Look what happened with your mate!"
"Exactly," I derail her only argument. I don't know what's gotten into her. She usually more level headed than I. "Look at my mate. Kaitlyn died. But now she's whatever she is now, and whatever that is, is still here. Do you get that? She's still here. All of this? It's all to prove I'm worthy of not only be the next true Bast, but to prove I'm worthy of her. I spent all of ten minutes total talking to her and I can tell, with her by my side, we will do great things. Do you know how I know that?"
Star gives me a shocked look, but shakes her head.
"Because she is amazing. Because we will be great. Together and for each other. Every true Bast has something to overcome. This is mine." This is mine. I can't let Kaitlyn down.
Not again, not ever.
Her shock sort of transfers into compilation. After a moment, she nods once, quick and sharp, and exits the common room.
I just majorly fought with my best friend, and I don't really know how she took it. Her feelings were all over the place and hard to sort out.
After a few minutes of spacing, I leave as well, back to my hunt for Aidan.
Goddess, everyone is acting so weird lately! Actually, everyone is different from when we left, come to think about it-
"Hey," Shea's twin, Sian I believe, interrupts my irritated looking. "You were looking for the enemy guy right?"
"He's not the enemy!" I explode.
She raises her hands in surrender, "Sorry, okay? It's just hard to think of one of them on our side, you know?"
Frustrated, I sigh. "I understand, but I'm an Empath-"
Her eyes widen, "Oh dear, say no more. It's got to be hard!"
I stare at the small girl in shock, and soften, "Yeah, thanks. So Aidan?"
She nods, "He hangs out in the vegetable field. Oh and Venus and Kenetic need to talk to you-"
I acknowledge it with a thankful smile. "See you later!"
As Sian said, Aidan is in the vegetable field. He's actually rolling around in the grassy area, like he's got a back itch.
"Yo, dude, what's up?" I yell, to alert him of my presence.
He jumps, sitting up. When I get close enough, I realize he's violently shaking.
Immediately worried, I try to drag him up. "Come on, well find someone who can figure out what's wrong with you!"
"N-n-no. I- I k-n-nown what'ssss w-w-wrong-g!" He interrupts me, "M-my m-mate- I've b- been avoiding my m-mate s-ssssince I turned eighteen lasssst week!"
I try my best to wrap my head around it. Eighteen? "The tigers know at sixteen, so do the wolves-"
"Eighteen for ussssss!" He shakes harder.
"Okay, okay, um where's your mate? Is she -or he, no judgment here, I promise- nearby?" I grab him, pulling his head in my lap. What the hell is going on? Where is his mate, and why aren't they here?
He nods, relaxing a little, but still shaking. "Yesssss..."
"Why are you like this? Shouldn't you be with your mate?"
He looks at me, and it's so open and vulnerable- Coupling that with the fact his heart is hurting- I want to cry.
He says nothing, but I feel it all. I rub the side of his face in sympathy. I think about the conversation I had with Sian. "You don't think they want you. Is it because... because you're 'the enemy'? That's bullshit! You're destined!"He smiles weakly, "Desssstined, maybe. Wanted, no. SSSShe's made it abundantly clear..."
That enraged me. "She made it clear she didn't want you, and didn't have the decency to formally reject you?!" I'm about to charge our and hunt down the bitch who dare do something that cruel, but his head moves a bit under my hands, drawing back my attention.
"No, sssshe doessssn't know that I'm her mate..." his eyes roll back as he mutters, "You sssssmell sssso beautiful..."
"Aidan? AIDAN!" I shake his limp body.
"You sssssmell sssso beautiful..."
I frantically check his breathing, and he's alive.
I hear someone come in and barely hear them ask what's going on. I jump up and yell for them to take Aidan to a doctor as I run out.
"You sssssmell sssso beautiful..."
I have to find her.
"Mystic!" Shouts Venus, who comes swinging around corner, "I need to speak with you!"
"Me too!" I yell back, not stopping my movements, pulling her back the way she came. "We need to find her, it's important. She's been acting weird regarding Aidan, and I know why! It's why she's been so moody! Star needs to get to-"
I momentarily forget about Aidan, freezing at the sight before me.
"Mystic," pants Venus beside me. "This is Kenetic, she can help us!"
"Hell! I know you! You're her mate?" The white haired, blue- eyed girl before me shouts angrily, jumping at me.
Venus tries to stop her, but only happens to go down with us, and the last thing I know, Kenetic's fist connects with my face.
(A/N: So... had some free time... wrote this during a 45 minute car ride, and started the next! Yay!)
