Mid April, they had just closed a case and Beckett was doing paperwork and Castle, as it was expected, was staring at her.
"Castle, please tell me it's already lunch time!" She most likely stated than asked in a frustrated tone. "I hate paperwork" She then added.
"Actually we could've left five minutes ago" Castle told her looking at his feet ashamed that he hadn't noticed before.
"We didn't you told me" She complained already standing up and grabbing her stuff, Castle stood up behind her, picked her jacket for the back of her chair and helped his muse dress it.
"Let's go" She mumbled annoyed by the fact that could have been out before.
On their way home, the couple picked Cosmo and Emily from their school (Maddy was in one of those exchanged students thing in the UK, she was going to spend the year there), Castle was driving and as soon as Beckett opened one of the door behind, he could hear their two kids laughing at something Kate had said, she placed them in their seats with the seat belts on, she then closed the door and went back to the passenger seat.
"Hi daddy" The two blue eyed kids greeted their father.
As they reached their place, They had placed them in the ground playing with some toys while they cooked lunch.
"I've been thinking..." Castle started as he waited for the water to boil to add the pasta. "What if we book our trip to Paris for this summer?" He asked, she froze, that was in three months, she thought. Oh god... She choose to ignore that thought and focus in giving Castle a solid answer.
"I was actually thinking the same thing! We should book it as soon as possible" She replied still trying to push that haunting thought away.
"I'll do it tonight" Castle told her as he made his way to her, she was placing the table and as soon as she saw him walking in her direction, she let go of the plates in her hands and turned her attention to him.
As he placed his hands on her hips and she her arms around his neck, they stared at each other before he broke the silence:
"Have I told that I love you today?" She shook her head "well, I'm saying it now"
"I love you too" she replied before her hands went to his cheeks and pulled his face to her, they lips collided and as soon as they touched, he felt her asking for permission to enter which he gladly accepted. Their tongues danced to the rhythm of their heartbeats, this was a dance that now the both of them knew exactly how to dance in order to make the other happy.
Afternoon
"Hey guys" The couple heard a group of voices greeting them, it Esposito, Ryan, Tom and Jess.
"I thought you were already in maternity leave" Beckett spoke walking to Tom and Jessica's desks.
"Today is the last day" Tom told them.
"Why didn't you come in the morning?" Castle asked curious as he usually is.
"Well... We went to an ultrasound" Jessica said with a smirk, a smirk that Beckett immediately understood, she had been there two times already... Maybe the third time wasn't too far away...
"You know the gender, don't you?" She asked and saw both Jessica's and Tom's eyes getting that special brightness.
"It's a girl" The couple answered in union.
"Congratulations" This time was Castle's and Beckett's turn to show that they could also be in sync.
"The four of you creep me out" Esposito admitted before Ryan could interrupt.
"You're just jealous you and Lanie can't do it" As Ryan said this, everyone in the room laughed.
"We should get to work" Beckett finally put an end to the conversation as she and Castle made their way to her desk.
Fifteen minutes later, Castle was standing up and walking to the break room, probably to make coffee for the two of them. Great. She thought, that was just what she needed, something that would go totally against her suspicions. Beckett stood up and followed Castle, maybe she should tell him what's going on, even though she didn't want to tell him just yet, maybe she was scared of what was ahead of them, she knew that it was the right thing to do.
"Hey" She said walking inside the break room where he was already working with the time machine.
"Hey, I was just about to bring you some coffee" He replied to her feeling something was about to happen.
"Castle, I think we have to talk" Kate finally had the courage to say it.
"I did have the feeling you were going to say that" He said placing the two mugs of coffee on the table. Beckett was about to open her mouth to speak but that was when Ryan stormed inside saying:
"Guys, we got a murder downtown" After telling them this, he went back to where he came from.
"It's ok, we'll talk later" Beckett told him as she wrapped her arms around his waist for a hug, he also wrapped his arms around her and placed his chin on top of her head.
"Whatever it is you want to talk about, I'm sure everything will be alright" He told her and kissed her forehead before leaving the precinct to go to the murder scene.
The four detectives and the writer arrived there and CSU was already there with the body.
As they approached to Lanie to see the body, Beckett glanced at the man laying on the floor with a puddle of blood around his head and a knife stabbed on his stomach.
"Good afternoon detectives" Lanie greeted them with a smile before Espo walked to her and kissed her cheek.
Beckett started blankly at the body, she could already feel her lunch travelling up her throat. She tried her best not to let it all come out, that probably turned her white as hell because the next thing she knew, was that everyone was staring at her.
"You alright, chica?" Esposito asked concerned, Castle simply place a hand gently on her back giving her courage to say whatever she wanted to tell the others. Kate took a deep breath before replying:
"I'm fine" She said with a smile "Actually I was thinking, why don't you all come and have dinner at our place tonight?? We haven't had one of those in ages, you could bring Sarah grace and Jenny, Ryan, I would love to see them again." She didn't knew what came into her, well deep down she knew, she wanted to avoid being alone with Castle and the kids because that would mean having the talk, and with all her insecurities on the subject, that was the last thing she wanted. Castle was watching and knowing her and he did, she knew exactly what she was trying to do, whatever she wanted to tell him back at the precinct, she was now trying to avoid it.
