As Tony and I exited the building, I couldn't help but feel the need to tell him of my...condition. No time for distractions " I mutter to myself. The words, though I did not invite them, climbed up my throat and took up residence on the tip of my tongue, ready to slip up out on any moment. I bit my tongue, and walked silently, nodding as Tony bantered on ...
"You know what this reminds me of Zivuhhh ?" I did not speak, I did not have to...He did not wait for me answer before excitedly exclaiming "The 1936 classic, The Dream Wife, husband found dead, seems like he poisoned himself, wife goes missing , and goes on a mass murder to kill all of the women he cheated on her with"
"Lt.Jackson was cheating on his wife?"
I asked quietly, not wanting my secret to slip out among my case questions.
" the Lieutenant was ..." Tony began to explain...
"There's no time for distractions" It played in my head again and again, but I was not listening, as much as I tried to ignore the life within me, it would not ignore me, paining me with nausea, and causing my feet and belly to lightly inflate, making my shoes and pants just a little too tight, squeezing me with every step. I became lost in my thoughts... I loved Tony, the way he over enunciated my name, how he worried about me , how he loved movies because of his mother, the way he could always lighten the mood of a situation, but of all the things I loved about him, I did not love that he did not want children. If I told him, it would completely change his life, and distract him from our work, and I was distracted enough for the both of us. I suppose I had options, but I found myself embarrassed to admit that I felt a connection to the miniature warrior I had created. In that moment, I decided, that I would do this by myself, I did not need to tell him...I was Ziva David, ex Mossad...."Ziva Hello?" My thoughts were interrupted by Tony waving a hand in front of my face. By reflux I drew my gun and brought it to his chest.
"Easy my crazy Isreali, I was just saying that the lieutenant had been depositing funds into a secret account and making withdrawals with a debit card under a fake name for dinners and lingerie, we presume the wife found out and flipped out" He nervously explainedI returned by weapon to its holster, I had been so distracted...."Put your blinders on, David"
"Sorry Tony, I'm just a little... Tired"
" I have a cure for tiredness" He slyly flirted and winked, then he wrapped his hand around my waist as we walked to the car.
"Not here Dinozzo!" I sharply replied, uncoiling his hand from my waist.
"Gibbs will kill us if he finds out" I reasoned, although it was neither Gibbs who I was worried would discover something, or the relationship that I was worried would be discovered.
"Relax David, there's nothing to worry about. Gibbs can't see us here. We've been dating for 10 months Ziva, if he knows he doesn't have a problem , and if he doesn't know by now..." His voice began to trail off... I did not answer, we did have something to worry about, although he did not yet know.
"I'll drive David" he announced when we arrived at the car "I've had enough attempts on my life for the day" he chuckled
I smiled, "you think that someone's up against you?" I thought to myself. "Yes I am talking about you" I whispered to the beast within me, who was causing my stomach to do flips.I was grateful for his speed limit driving, however, the wild beast who I shared a body with continued its battle, and I felt little relief. With every turn or bump, the contents of my stomach begin to crawl up my throat, waiting with the words, for a chance to escape. I took my hand and pushed it against the cage of the vicious creature, my belly, attempting to remind it who possessed the greater power.
"There is no time for distractions"
I reminded myself.
As we arrived, Tony and I heard gun shots , we both pulled out our weapons and ran into the house .
"NCIS drop your weapons" we say in unison, but instead of the lieutenants wife, we find 2 gang members rummaging through the lieutenants belongings.
The house was trashed and graffitied, it was obvious that the lieutenant had not been here in a while . "DONT shoot" one man screams, throwing his hands in the air.
The other one runs , I smile and catch up to him , toppling him with a kick. My foot hits his back with a satisfying clang- sending him to the floor.
"I was just messin' with him, I didn't want no trouble, I just wanted that damn television " The 200 pound man blubbers as I hold my weapon to his chest .
"Nice moves my ninja" Tony compliments me, while taking the mans gun. I grin, my strength and agility have always been one of something I've been proud of . My smile soon faded, As I began to ponder how long I could continue to do what I loved. "That's not something to worry about now" I reminded myself. "There's no time for distractions "
Tony chuckles, "There's gun powder residue, he shot a blank"
"I was just scaring 'im " The fat man repeats "God Dont send me back to jail, I didn't hurt nobody" I took great pleasure as I clicked the handcuffs onto him, "accidentally" pinching his skin .
