There was something about running in the rain.
The sound. The smell. The way it made you feel fearless.
The rhythm of your feet and the feeling of your heart pounding in your chest.
The way run cool drops trailed down your face
The way your mind went quiet and your eyes opened to the world around you
Oh and the men who ran in the rain
Oh yes the men who run in the rain
Wait was that...
No..
"Tony?" I called out into the storm, turning my head in a hopeless attempt to see as beads of rain and sweat blurred my vision.
"Hey funny running into you here David" He smirked and jogged in a circle around me.
"Funny running into you anywhere, Tony," I laughed "You don't run."
"Who said I don't run ? I've got these new nikes and this GPS watch and I got this app... Run from Zombies have you ever..."
"You. You were the one who said you didn't run. In fact you said 'If I'm running there's either my ex or a psychopath behind me, or frankly both"
"Well that was past me. I've changed David. New years resolutions ey Ziver" Tony said and puffed his chest out as if to show off his new physique.
"You are aware that it is June, Tony?" I said tryingly
"Better late than never" He smiled and glanced down, then back up so our eyes met, then fled to the matey of the ground.
"Alright Mr. Midlife crisis, you are interrupting my workout, I'm going to leave you to your delusion." I laughed and tried to jog around him.
"Easy there Ziva, before you go, I just want to know the chances that your run would lead you 6 miles from your apartment to mine." He called just as I passed his shoulder, stopping me in my tracks. My route was a bit ... planned.
"I'll have you know this is one of my usual runs," I began, trying to keep from blushing
"Any reason to go so far from home David-o?" He grinned and glanced at me as I tightened my pony tail nervously
"The view." I smiled and looked into his eyes for a moment before letting them dart to the safety of the clouds.
"Oh I see how it is.... you know Ziver you're looking awfully dry for having run 6 miles" Tony said with childish joy.
"The rain cannot catch me" I smiled uncontrollably
"Maybe... but we'll see if I can" He threatened and took a large step towards me
"What" I said slowly backing up
"Come here Ziva, I could use a towel" He called and quickened his pace with outstretched arms, grabbing me and pulling me against his wet T shirt.
"Tony YOU little" I screeched and tried not to smile too widely
"nothing about me is little baby" He smirked
"I am not your child" I laughed
"Not yet kid" He said with such confidence that IU broke out in goosebumps
"I cannot deal with man-children right now, I'll see you tomorrow Tony"
" Same place ? Same time?, " He yelled after me as I turned and began to run back up the hill, "You'll be running though my dreams",
I smiled. The 6 miles were worth it.
