sky's pouring, thunder's rumbling
and i am umbrella-less. i feel the
chill creep through my bones
and stike my world worn heart.
there is only searing numbness,
what's new about rainy days?

family is like the warm shower
that banishes all notions of
bleakness from my soul. it is the
warm blanket that sits on my
shoulder, and the sun is shining
in my heart and the world is okay.
when the world breaks, you're there.

nothing great, just a shoulder to
lean on when the earth spins off
its axis, two wads of tissues for
your snot and three hugs to quash
your worries. you're there when
rainbows dazzle and you're there
when the sky shatters. i don't always
see, but i know. and that's enough.
your love makes my world go round.
