The class goes by in a blink and then Jewels and I are heading to the cafeteria. I tell Jewels I'm not hungry so I grab our seat and wait. When she gets in line, Nate comes over and gets straight to the point. "Indie, I need help. I wanna ask this girl out but I'm not sure she feels the same. What do I do?" he pleads, looking into my eyes.

"Well...has she shown anything that might make you think she likes you?"

"She does touch my arm and punch me sometimes." when he looks at me, his eyes burn a deep brown, almost like he's trying to tell me something.

"I say go for it and ask her out. You never know, she may like you. She'd be dumb to not accept you Nate." I tell him sincerely.

"Alright...Alright. I think I'll ask her today after school." he says with a determined look in his eyes. "I'm gonna go get my lunch. I'll be right back." and with that, he's gone.

I wonder who he likes? Whoever she is, she'd be crazy not to accept. Nate is such an amazing friend. He's sweet, attentive, and most of all, he's always got your back. One time, I was at the library with Nate when my ex Tristan appeared. When Nate went to go get a book that was on hold, Tristan approached me and pushed me in the wall. He tried to kiss me but I pushed against him. Nate heard what was going on and rushed over and pulled Tristan off of me.

To make a long story short, Tristan ran away with a busted lip and a black eye. I cried after that and Nate just held me. Ever since then, I knew I could trust him.

While I continue to think about Nate's love life, Jewels walks to the table with a tray filled with food. She's got 2 slices of pizza, 2 cookies, an ice cream and beef jerky. "Why do you have so much food?" I frown, puzzled.

"I'm hungry, duh. If nobody's around at home to feed me, the school sure will." that shuts me up. Jewels has to be one of the strongest people I know. Her mom walked out about a year ago taking everything valuable but leaving just her dad and 2 brothers. She has several jobs just so they can keep their house. She takes care of her brothers while her dad is constantly at the bar, getting as drunk as he can.

I give her a smile and change the subject. "So I hear that Nate is gonna ask a girl out today after school. Do you know anything about it?" I watch her carefully to see if she's hiding anything from me.

"Really? I had no idea he likes someone." I study her and see if I can tell she's lying. She looks up at me and she looks genuinely shocked.

"I wonder who it is?" she ponders while eating a slice of pizza.

Nate walks over with just as much food as Jewels. "Hey Nate," Jewels says with a hint of petulance, "Who do you like?".

Nate clears his throat and mumbles something under his breath.

"Sorry? I couldn't hear you." Jewels says with a hint of annoyance on her face. "I said, it's a girl in my class. That's all you need to know right now." Nate says with finality in his tone.

They finish their food in silence when the bell rings, signaling it's time to leave. While I wait for them to throw their trash away, I notice Jewels looks irritated. I wonder what's going on?

Jewels and I part ways with a look that says "we'll talk later". Nate and I walk together to World History in silence. I break the silence and state "You do know you have to tell her sometime right? You know Jewels, she won't let this down." I look over and see Nate looking at the ground.

"Nate, what's wrong?" I stop walking and grab his arm. "Indie...the girl I want to ask out is..."
