“A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you.”-- Elbert Hubbard
I couldn't do it. I couldn't leave my dorm without saying a goodbye. I missed Kim and couldn't just leave so, the first thing on my Saturday morning bucket list was to go and meet Kim.
After I drew in a deep breath, I knocked on her room door. I could hear noise on the other side and thought I should worry but, when she opened the door, I saw how excited she looked. Her hair was all done, falling in soft brown curls down to her shoulders, she also wore a light blue short-crop vest with a brown shirt and light blue shorts with flats.
"Right on time-" she paused and looked up from rummaging around her purse, "Oh, its just you." Kim said it in a bemused tone.
"Wow. Don't hold anything back." I used my sarcastic voice.
"No, I just thought it was someone else. Anyway, what do you want?"
"Straight forward, much?" I saw the look she gave my sarcastic tone and decided to get serious. "Kim, I'm moving out of the dorm. I just wanted to say-"
"That's great!" Kim said with fake excitement. "First Lily, then Karin, and now you. Look at you guys, progressing in your lives, being independent and never once looking back. I'm really happy for you all! Now, can you leave?" Oh yea, Karin joined the Anti-Council Club's Tech Committee, after much persuading by Lily.
"Kim, what's the matter-" I stepped inside the room and moved closer to her.
"Don't! Just don't go there. You guys are all so happy with your lives, it's just peachy. Remember what we were like a week ago, before college started? What happened to us? Huh? We were supposed to go through college together."
"Kim, I-"
"No, you guys just left. Without even so much as asking me what I thought about all of this. Or even what I would go through if you guys just left. I am glad-" tears started pouring out of her eyes and she couldn't stop.
"Kim, I-I'm sorry. I didn't know you felt this way. If you want, I'll stay back and I don't even need the dumb Special's seat. All I need is you guys. I will go and tell Zak and-" I started rambling. I didn't know what to do. I was a terrible friend. I had just left my best friend all alone, by herself, without thinking twice? Is this what I've become?
"Do you know, yesterday I went to another Council party and that's where Michael broke up with me? He was a jerk. He tried to-" A lot more tears dropped from her eyes as she slumped down on her bed. I sat next to her and just hugged her.
"Andrew, he-he was there. He stopped the spell that Michael had over me. And then he th-threw Mike out." She sobbed more.
"Hey Kim, you ready to-" Andrew came up to the door and stopped when he saw us. "What's wrong?" He said with fake concern in his eyes as he crouched down on one knee beside Kim, who pulled out of our hug. He didn't care, I didn't know how I could tell, but I knew for fact he didn't care. If anyone else were to look at him, I'm sure, they would think his facade was real.
"Nothing!" I snapped back. Kim didn't need this right now.
"Zoey, stop! If it wasn't for Andrew-" she drew in a quick breath.
"Kimmy, don't worry about any of it." Andrew continued with his fake act. "It's all good and done with now. You don't need to even think about it." Kim started hugging him while he looked straight at me, challenging me with his eyes.
"Th-thanks Andrew. You're an amazing friend." Kim said while she sniffed and her tears slowed down. At this, Andrew through me a smirk.
"Kim, let's go. I have something to show you." I pulled Kim away from the douche.
