~~Chapter 29~~

I was making dinner for my family when I heard my father yelling.

"Destiny, if you don't finish that spaghetti in ten minutes, you're gonna wish you were never born." He called out from the living room.

"Already there." I mumbled under my breath. I finished mixing the meat sauce and brought it over to my bowl full of spaghetti, then poured it over the top. Taking out three plates, I put a helping on each one and carried two out to my parents, who were sitting on the couch, drunk. I quietly placed a plate in front of them and walked back to the kitchen. Grabbing the third plate, I walked upstairs to my brother's room. I knocked softly and he grunted. When I opened the door, Robert was sitting on his bed, reading a magazine.

"Just put it over there." He said, nodding his head towards his desk. I set it down and began to walk out of his room.

"Des."He said, not looking up from his magazine. I turned around and looked at him. "I'm getting real tired of them." He said, talking about my parents. I nodded in agreement. He looked me up and down, staring at me.

"Well you look awful." He told me. I looked down, letting him insult me. I stayed silent and nodded, admitting defeat, then walked back to the kitchen to clean up.

Later that night, I was sleeping in my bed when I woke up to a bloodcurdling scream. I quickly sat up and ran down the stairs as fast as I could. When I reached the bottom of the stairs, I couldn't believe my eyes. Robert was standing over my parents' bodies. I looked at him to see him wiping his knife on my father's shirt. Pure terror filled me, and I let out a scream that I couldn't hold in. Robert quickly saw me staring and lunged at me, pinning me against the wall. He held the knife to my throat and dug it into my skin slightly.

"You tell the cops anything, and I will make sure I slice your throat open. Got it?"

I nodded quickly, afraid of what may happen. A second later, Robert was off, and he destroyed his evidence. He made a few phone calls, then turned to me while I was crying in my lap.

"If anyone asks, you were with me at the grocery store and found them dead." He told me. I nodded and put my head in my lap again. Right after, he dialed 911.

2 years later...

"DES, I WANT YOU DOWN HERE NOW!" My brother screamed. I jumped right out of bed and ran down the stairs as fast as I could.

"What do you need?" I asked him.

"Well first of all, where's my breakfast? Shouldn't this have been done already?" He asked with an annoyed expression. I nodded, walking over to the pantry and pulling out some pancake mix.

As I made breakfast, Robert drank a few beers from the refrigerator. Wasn't it a little early to be drinking? I set down his pancakes and sausage in front of him and handed him some orange juice.

"Are you kidding me? Are you SERIOUSLY KIDDING ME?" He screamed. I widened my eyes with shock.

"I-I just thought that you had enough to drink this morning." I told him gently. Robert picked up the glass and smashed it over the table. Shards flew out everywhere, and I backed into a corner, cowering away from him. He stepped closer and put a hand on his hips, studying me.

"God, why are you so pathetic? You sit there all day afraid of everything. Why don't you just suck it up, and quit acting like a baby! I don't know why I didn't have the sense to kill you two years ago either." He yelled. "Look at you. You're an ugly loser, Des. Start wearing makeup. Then maybe you won't be such an ugly cow and people could actually stand to look at you." I glanced up at him and put my face into my hands.

"I'm so sorry Robert!" I cried.

"SHUT UP!"

I felt a palm hit my cheek with a ton of force and cried out. Sliding down the wall, I began to sob and apologize to Robert. He ignored me and kicked me once in the stomach, then walked away. I sat there for an hour, just waiting for him to come back, but thankfully, he never did. I crawled to my room and rested on my bed, trying to ignore the pain in my stomach. Charlie, my bird, was squawking in his cage, wanting to come out.

"Sorry Charles, not right now." I said outloud. Slowly, my eyes began to tire, and I fell asleep.
