"Psst, Chara."
"Hhm?"
"Do you know the answer to exercise number 6?" Amy tried to reach out to Chara at the biology exam. She wasn't into studying. However Chara was a passionate reader, he read almost anything so he had no problem with studying. Chara rolled his eyes. He hated when people asked him about exams or exercises. That's all people wanted from him, this was the only reason people reached out to him at school. Although he was annoyed he tried to tell her the answer anyway. Chara was prepared to say "C" when suddenly the teacher yelled:
"Quiet there or I'll take your exams" Chara then decided to ignore Amy because he didn't want to get caught.
3 month have passed after that incident with Amy and she still tried to win Chara's attention back. They talked to each other sometimes but Chara mostly tried to avoid her. He didn't want to get involved with a spoiled, irresponsible and delusional brat, that's exactly what Amy seemed to be. Once Amy realized she wouldn't win Chara back she started to make passive-aggressive comments about him whenever people talked to him or mentioned him in a conversation. She also became close friends with all the boys in the classroom to provoke him. Little did she know that he didn't care. In fact he thought it was pathetic. In the past few weeks he had put even less effort in his recovery. He had even less contact with other people beside his psychologist, Jessica Parker. She was the only person Chara had a solid friendship with. The only semi-socialization he had with other people was with the orphans. However he mostly tried not to get too attached to the children so that he wouldn't feel bad for them whenever they were punished by the brutal caretakers in the orphanage. And, of course, he tried to stay as far as possible from his caretakers. He was still reading his new book that he found in the library. It had around 1000 pages. But even this didn't really appeal to him anymore. He left the page marker on page 549, the first page of the chapter The war between humans and monsters. He was so depressed that he stopped doing his favorite hobby.
In school things weren't looking too good for him either. Due to Amy's popularity, she was very influential and made almost everyone dislike Chara. The children tried to pick on him to no avail. Chara was not someone that could be easily picked on. Although he was depressed he was still confident about himself. He would always turn everything people said to him against them. He would humiliate every single person that tried to mess with him. Once, Amy brought many of her friends together. They made a circle around Chara and said horrible things to him. They tried to beat and kick him. Chara laughed at them and fought all of them by himself. Of course he and all the others received punishments in the school. The teachers didn't contact his caretakers though, for obvious reasons. All of this happened in a short amount of time. People around him changed and he changed too. Soon they realized it wasn't worth messing with Chara anymore. Eventually things went back to like it was before Amy talked to him. He was alone again, people avoided him and his everyday life at the orphanage sucked. In the orphanage the chef caretaker approached Chara at dinner with startling news.
"Good news for you, there's a person who's requesting your adoption. Ugh, unbelievable, right?" Chara's jaw dropped and all of the pasta fell from his mouth, the caretaker looked at him with disgust.
"Wh- wh... wha-."
"Yes, that's exactly how I reacted too. It is unbelievable. This person is going to regret this decision, I feel so sorry for them. Who would want to adopt a messed up kid like you? Ha ha ha."
"But... wh- who?! Can I see them?! Wh-Where are they?" Chara stuttered.
"Apparently a young woman called Jessica Parker is brave enough to accept this challenge. Ha ha ha, I almost denied it, but she would do me a favor by taking you away from this place." Chara froze on the spot.
"Yes, you heard me right. It's your psychologist. I'm surprised. Seems like she doesn't know anything about you until today." Chara immediately stood up and yelled
"Where is she?!" He took a step but the caretaker pushed him down to his seat in a rough way.
"Sit your butt down, or I'll make sure you never sit again. Eat all of your food first or I'm going to deny your adoption and send her away." Chara ignored most of what the caretaker said, he only heard "eat all of your food first" and the rest was just incoherent mumbling in his head. He rapidly swallowed what was left of his dinner. He almost threw up, the pasta was as disgusting as always.
After he finished, he rushed to the caretakers office. It was true. Jessica was sitting there, waiting for him. She looked different. Her hair was loose, she was wearing make-up and a pink dress. She almost looked like a teenager. She is really here. Chara just stood there, staring at her, not knowing what to say. But it didn't matter. This was all so unbelievable.
"Yo-you're... you're crazy right... You're completely out of your mind.." Chara said emotional
"Why would you say that?" Jessica said happily.
"You-you're.. adopting.. ME?! SERIOUSLY?! The most messed up kid you could get?"
"A psychologist and her mad patient, isn't it the perfect family?" Jessica said with a bright smile. "You're the mad one here" Chara said. Jessica stood up and he ran into her arms. He was finally being adopted and by no one else than his psychologist. His only friend for the past 4 years. His reddish eyes were shining with happiness. The orphanage, the caretakers, the losers in his classroom, Amy and this god forsaken village, he would never see any of this again. Jessica lived in a city nearby so he was going to move out of this village. He hated this village with every fiber of his body. He couldn't believe that he would finally be far away from this place.
The caretakers made Jessica sign various papers. Meanwhile Chara went to his room and threw everything he had into a plastic bag. He didn't have much. Just 3 shirts, 2 pants and some underwear. He also put the book from the library in the bag. It was unlikely that they would miss one old book. He ran downstairs to the main hall where Jessica was awaiting him. As a "goodbye" the caretaker said with a malicious smile:
"Just a friendly warning, you are going to regret this decision Mrs. Parker."
"The only regrets I have is that I didn't make this decision sooner. You are the one that is going to have regrets. Your work is mediocre and so is this orphanage. Life will teach you how to treat children properly and believe me, it's not going to be nice to you. Farewell." Jessica said coldly.
"FAREWELL MRS. UGLY BIRTHMARK" Chara yelled, louder than ever, with great pleasure in every syllable he pronounced. He entered the car and looked at his old home. Jessica started to drive. The figure of the caretaker at the entrance of the orphanage got smaller, more distant. The sight of the houses going by while Jessica drove, the sunset, all of this filled him with determination. After less than 5 minutes they already left the village. They passed by a sign that said "C. Kerry". Finally.
