"Asriel? Wow, your name is prettier than mine." - Chara said that almost whispering. He was still feeling a lot of pain. He looked back at the hole on the ceiling and tried to calculate how many feet he had fallen down. Maybe 50 or 60? Thinking about it gave Chara a headache so he faced forward again.
Asriel looked like the goat-monster on the back cover of his old monster book. Chara couldn't hold back this important question. Excitement grew inside of his chest. Could it be possible that these monsters from the book existed? Chara opened his mouth to ask but Asriel was faster.
"You're a human, arentcha?" - he asked.
"Yes, b-but.. what are you?" -
"I'm a monster! I know, you probably haven't seen any of us on the surface. You probably didn't even know that we existed. It's because we're trapped here." - The goat child said.
Excitement spread through Chara's whole body. His hope in life has suddenly been restored. This was it. He finally found them. He finally found out that the story he so desperately believed in was actually true. These creatures who he related to so much existed. Chara wasn't alone anymore.
"SO IT'S TRUE! I KNEW IT!" he yelled. He tripped out of excitement and fell down. He felt his bones cracking.
"Ow..."
Asriel pulled him up again and kept walking.
"Where are we going exactly?" - Chara asked looking around curiously. They were wandering around an area with purple walls.
"I'll bring you to my mom. We're here in the ruins to catch some snails but soon we're going back to the castle."
"Snails...? What for?"
"My mom loves snail pie!" - Asriel said excited. This sounded really nasty but Chara tried to hide his nauseous expression.
"Castle? You live in a castle?"
"Yes. We're the royal family!"
Chara had many more questions but in the moment he felt too much pain to think about them. Asriel brought him to a very nice little house in the ruins. The sign before it said 'Home'. Inside of the house Asriel brought Chara to his room and laid him on the bed. Chara could finally rest and his pain reduced just a little.
"So, you're part of the royal family?" - Chara continued asking.
"Allow me to introduce myself. Prince Asriel Dreemurr at your service." Asriel made a fancy gesture with his hand that was now pointing to his own chest.
"Dreamer? Is that really your surname?" – Chara asked astonished.
"No, It's Dreemurr! D-R-E-E-M-U-R-R." – Asriel spelled. For some reason this was even more unusual than if his surname was actually "dreamer". They heard steps outside of the bedroom.
"Moooom! Come here, look at this!" - Asriel yelled out of excitement and dashed out of the room. He heard a soft voice of a woman say:
"Alright, alright. What is it?"
Asriel entered the room accompanied by a monster that looked like his adult female version with little horns.
"Oh! My goodness! What happened to you my child?" Before Chara could say anything the woman already sat by his side and put her hands on his chest. All of a sudden all of the injures vanished along with the pain.
"WH-WHAT?! HOW?! Did you do that? I don't feel anything! THIS IS INCREDIBLE! THANK YOU!" Chara said. "Y-you must be the queen. I'm so honored to meet you, your highness. Your son has..."
"HAHAHAHA don't call me your highness silly. My name is Toriel. Just call me that. And what is your name?" she asked gently.
"I'm Chara. Thank you for treating me, Toriel."
Chara didn't even think about returning to the surface mainly because he already knew it was impossible. He read about the barrier that has been cast by the human king. He never felt so welcomed in his entire life. Toriel and Asriel showed him a bug hunting spot and introduced him to other monsters that lived in the ruins. Chara never had so much amusement in one single day. He even won a donut from some spiders! It was a shame that they had to go back to the castle so soon. But no matter where in the underground he'd go he'd be alright. But actually, he really wanted to go with Asriel and Toriel. He felt like he had met his long lost brother, so he overcame his embarrassment and asked:
"H-hey... I was wondering if I... if I could go with you, and stuff. Maybe I could stay with you until a nice family adopts me here. Y-you know." - He stuttered.
"What? Did you really think we would just leave you here? I thought it was obvious that you'd come with us." Toriel said surprised.
Chara couldn't hold back his happiness and hugged Toriel and Asriel. He was starting to feel alive again, just like when Jessica was by his side. For some reason Toriel reminded him of Jessica a little.
They left the ruins and took a boat to the core which was the shortest way to the castle. There was a house that looked exactly like the one in the ruins but the sign said 'New home' instead.
"This is where we live." Toriel said.
"Really? I thought you lived in the castle!" Chara said surprised
"The castle is very close but we only go there when we work. In the past days I was off because I went snail hunting. Asgore is going to be so glad that to see that we've returned."
"You're gonna love Dad! He's the funniest Dad ever! Come, I'll show you my room! - Asriel hopped out of excitement and dragged Chara to his room.
In the evening the Monster King arrived at home. He was very surprised to see Chara but also very happy. Chara was insecure about him but Asriel really said the truth. He was a humorous "fluffybun". Toriel made her famous butterscotch pie that evening. Chara never had pie in his entire life. This was all so incredible. His life had changed again for the better and this time he wouldn't let anyone ruin it for him. He was away from the wicked and together with the people he was always meant to be. As much as he liked the royal family he knew he couldn't stay for long. He really wished to be adopted by them.
"So, Chara, I'm glad you joined us this evening. You said that you read a book about us monsters? Well, that's convenient; we have a whole library in the castle!" – Asgore said excited.
"WHAT? YOU HAVE YOUR OWN LIBRARY? CAN I SEE IT?" - Chara jumped off his chair.
Asgore, Toriel and Asriel took Chara to the castle and into the library. It was bigger than the main hall in the orphanage. Chara fell in love with it.
"Wow! I wanna read every single one of these books. I know that I don't live here but even if someone adopts me, can I come visit you? This is amazing!" - He said when picking one of the books.
Asgore and Toriel laughed simultaneously. Chara didn't know what it meant. They kept laughing and suddenly they got very emotional. They looked at each other like they were saying "Do you think the same what I'm thinking?"
"What is it? Did I say something wrong?" Chara asked.
The royal couple pulled him in the air and hugged him. Asriel joined them and now the four were hugging each other. Finally Chara understood.
He had found a family.
