Chara's backstory

New Home

"So... am I supposed to call you 'mom' now?" - Chara asked jokingly. 

"You can call me whatever you want." Jessica said while driving and looking at the road. 

"Ok Mrs. Paker." Chara said sarcastically. Jessica giggled. 

 They finally arrived in the big city after 5 minutes. It was closer than Chara thought. Chara didn't know which direction he should look. It was all so different. There were huge buildings with many apartments, shopping malls, so many different lights and colors he had never seen in the village. They were surrounded by other cars. There wasn't one single building-free spot. The city was full of all kinds of huge constructions. He rapidly looked to the right, to the left, back and forward, he never stopped looking in different directions. He was making sure that he was able to look at everything they passed by. After a while Jessica entered a huge parking lot. The parking lot was full of cars and it took a while to find a free spot. The parking lot was in front of a 5-floors-building. 

 "This is a shopping mall." Jessica informed. "I have to buy you some new clothes. You can't just live with 3 shirts and 2 pants. I think you'll enjoy yourself." 

"WOOOOOAAAAAAH" Chara was hypnotized by the sight of the shopping mall. It was 201X and he has never seen so many shiny advertisements. Before they went to buy new clothes, Jessica took Chara to lunch at one of the fast food restaurants. The dining area was huge and had famous fast food restaurants that Chara had only heard of until the present day such as McDonald's, KFC, Burger King, and many more. He ate 2 burgers, 2 portions of french fries and pizza. After all this he still wasn't satisfied and asked for ice cream. Jessica only ate a small pizza and drank a smoothie.

After lunch Jessica took Chara to the cinema. He had never gone to the cinema before. The three-dimensional technology blew him away. He felt like he was in the future. The other spectators in the movies found Chara's amazement weird. It was clearly no big deal for them. The children's programs on the crappy TV in the orphanage was nothing compared to this.Finally Jessica and Chara went to buy some clothes. It was already nighttime but the shopping got even more crowded than before. Jessica ended up buying 20 clothing parts including a cool beanie and 4 pairs of shoes. At 10 pm they finally drove home. It wasn't far from the shopping. She lived in an apartment that was on the 2nd floor of a huge red building. There was even an elevator in the building. Her apartment was very well organized. It wasn't very big. The kitchen was in the living room and there were 2 bedrooms, each bedroom with its own bathroom. Chara couldn't believe that this was his New Home.

"THAT WAS AWESOME. It was like, like I was in the movie. A-and I've never eaten so well in my whole life." 

"You mean you've never eaten so much in your life, you didn't really eat well. Don't expect this everyday. There's gonna be healthy meals everyday in this household." 

"I'm perfectly fine with that. I can't wait to finally eat well. I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M NEVER EATING THAT DISGUSTING PASTA AGAIN" Chara yawned loudly. 

"Time to go to bed. Tomorrow you're gonna help me put your clothes in your wardrobe." 

 "Ah come on, let's do something. It's my first day here, PLEASE." Chara asked looking at her with a bright smile. 

"Uh. Oh well, fine."

They both watched a movie in the living room. Chara fell asleep before it ended. Jessica, with all her strength tried to carry the boy. She could feel the heaviness of his 57 lbs. She carried him to his bed successfully even if her arms hurt afterwards. She contemplated the boy on his bed. 

"Good night, son."

She walked to her room. Chara had a very nice dream that night.

3 month have passed. It was now August of the year 201X. At 6 am Jessica's cellphone rang.

"Hello?" Jessica mumbled. 

"Mrs. Parker! Thank god. I tried to call you yesterday all day!" 

"Hello, I'm sorry, I was at a reunion yesterday." 

"Very well, we need you urgently at the Asylum! Right now." 

"But I only work at the Asylum on Mondays and Thursdays." 

"They're about to demolish it. And we still don't have the authorization from the government to relocate the patients to another psychiatric hospital. The patients need you right now and we need back up. All the other psychologist and psychiatrists resigned from this place." 

"WHAT?! I'm heading there right now."

Jessica has been working at an Asylum at Chara's old village for years. She watched as the place fell to pieces throughout these years. Nowadays this place was in a pitiable state. But she still didn't give up on it. They had no quality equipment to treat the patients. The corridors, rooms, beds, nearly everything in the Asylum was filthy. The patients suffered from mental disorders such as schizophrenia. These people were totally abandoned by their families and were seen as aberrations by the rest of the villagers. The fact that there was such a mentally delayed village in 201X in europe was crazy. Jessica was relieved that Chara wouldn't have contact with it anymore.She dressed up fast and went to Chara's room to wake him up. 

"Wh-what.. what is it?" Chara mumbled when he felt Jessica hands on his shoulder.

"They need me at the Asylum today. The place is falling apart. I can't leave my patients in this situation but I'll try to come back before dinner. You can make yourself instant noodles, Ok? Call me if you need anything." 

"O- yawn-Ok.." Chara fell asleep again. Jessica rushed to the old village.
