Chapter 18: Getting Settled

**Hannah's POV**

It is a Saturday afternoon. Bree is texting Jack, a boy she really likes. Oliver is talking to imaginary Skylar, I think I caught him kissing imaginary Skylar too. Eek! Chase and Mr. Davenport are downstairs working on some science project. Amanda, Kaz, Skylar, and I all are sadly playing just dance like the weirdos we are. Skylar and I on one team, Amanda and Kaz on the other. After dancing to Taylor Swift's Shake it off, I decide to check out what everyone's doing. Oliver-not interested in seeing his little 'date' with a pretend Skylar. Bree-not gonna stalk her texting to her dream boyfriend. So therefore, I go downstairs to see what the nerd herd is doing. It seems like the perfect name for them, but to be fair, I'm sort of a nerd too.

"Hey guys what's u-"

"Don't move." Chase orders carefully walking towards the elevator. Um, okay. I'm not sure why Chase is being so weird, but I'll stand here anyways.

"Why?" I ask standing still in the hydro lift.

"We might've accidentally created a hybrid monkey-crocodile-ant-thing. But don't worry, it's only sort of dangerous." Chase explained searching the floors carefully.

"Well, I guess I'll leave you guys to it, then." I slowly back farther into the hydro-lift.

"Wait, can you help us find it? Please?" Chase pleads. Oh gosh, why does he have to be so cute!

"This thing better be worth it. I was in the middle of a just dance competition." I put my hands on my hips. Then I wait for him to make sure the hybrid monster thing isn't near me so that I could walk in.

"You know, I'm not that surprised that you would creat a monster with you father. It was bound to happen sometime while I'm here." I tell Chase when I step into the lab. "Didn't Bree say something about you and your uncle bringing a forty-thousand year old spider back to life?" Chase give me a look. I shrug and look around the room.

"He what?" Mr. Davenport exclaimed surprised.

"He brought a spider back from the dead with your brother, didn't you hear about it? I mean, you own the academy, right? Bree said that they had to get some venom from it because Adam got bitten." I explained. Chase was standing up closing his eyes and shaking is head. He leans next to me and whispers, "you weren't supposed to tell him that."

"Ohhhh. Um, I meant, that Bree said she'd wished that would happen. I mean, she has always dreamed that she'd be involved in destroying a huge spider..." I try to cover up, but badly failed.

"Chase? Did this all happen?" Mr. Davenport asks.

"Can we just focus on finding the hybrid monster in this place?!" Chase asks. We all look under the desks and again in the hydro-lift. "Try connecting with it telepathically. Maybe look for some animal thoughts."

I chuckle a little, "the only animal thoughts I can pick up are from the four different guys in this place." Mr. Davenport and Chase glare at me. Unamused. "Okay, fine. I'll try."

Come here little hybrid, come here... I say in my head. Then silently wait for an answer. Then I receive a reply not from the hybrid, but from Oliver. Hannah? Are you going insane? I might be a little strange, but I'm not a hybrid. I burst out laughing.

"what? Can you read it's thoughts?" Mr. Davenport asks seriously.

"Not unless the hybrid is Oliver." I answer him.
