it was a normal day for patrick. he was at lunch with a book in his hand and an apple in the other. he was rereading one of his favorite books. he was sitting at a table near the back of the cafeteria while waiting for pete, andy and joe to join him.
he was startled when andy slammed his hands on the table and was raising his voice. "why have you been acting so weird?" patrick jumped a little bit and dropped his book and his apple.
"what the heck is going on?" patrick asked, bending down to get his book.
"andy, can i speak to you for a minute in the hallway?" joe asked and andy nodded and followed him.
"well way to keep it on the down low." joe said sarcastically.
"was i too straightforward about it?" andy asked.
"was i too straightforward about it?" joe mocked him. "of course you're making it too obvious if you just go in there and slam your fists on the table!"
"maybe i should tone it down a notch?"
"you think?" joe sighed and he and andy walked back into the cafeteria.
"sorry about him, he's not feeling very well." joe said pointing to andy.
"what are you talking about i feel fi-" joe stopped him and andy oohed and faked a cough.
"what was that all about?" patrick asked as andy and joe sat down.
"um, nothing. andy was practicing for the school play." joe managed to spit something out to make his story more believable.
"oh um cool." it sounded like patrick wasn't convinced about the school play lie.
"anyways do you guys know where pete is?" patrick asked, looking around the lunchroom.
joe and andy both shook their heads. "sorry."
after a few minutes andy broke the silence, "so what's been happening?"
"nothing much, the usual y'know." patrick shrugged.
"sounds cool, sounds cool." joe said. " got any plans this weekend?"
"not that i'm aware of." patrick said.
"well cool because i was think that we could um, h-have a sleepover." joe figured that that was the best way to figure out what patrick was up to.
"sounds great!" patrick said with a smile.
"okay i'll text you the deets." joe said and laughed at the word deets.
"who even says deets?" andy was now laughing too.
"apparently joe."
"sorry i'm late i had to get some stuff." pete said as he sat down next to patrick.
patrick, joe and andy were now all laughing at the word deets. " what are you guys laughing at?" pete asked.
"joe said deets." andy giggled.
"what the heck is a deet?" pete was confused.
"it's short for details." joe said and it was quiet for a moment until it clicked in peters mind and he was now laughing too.
"why were you guys talking about details?"
"patrick might be having a sleepover at my house this weekend." joe looked at pete and winked.
"what?"
joe leaned over and whispered in pete's ear, "so i can figure out what's going on."
"oh. that makes sense."
"what makes sense?" patrick asked, looking up from his book.
"that the practices for the school play will not be on Tuesdays and Thursdays because those are the days that andy has crossfit." joe stuttered out.
"oh, that does make sense." patrick nodded. "maybe one day we can all watch you in the school play."
joe gulped. "u-uh no because andy got kicked out of the school play."
"but you just said that he-" patrick started.
"i just decided that i hate drama so i'm going to quit after lunch." andy stepped in and tried to help joe with the school play lie.
"oh ok then." patrick shook his head and went back to his book.
"well that was a close one." andy said.
"what was a close one?" patrick asked.
"w-was that the bell? well i better get to class, bye." andy got up and quickly walked away.
"lunch doesn't even end for another fifteen minutes." patrick muttered.
"well he's acting weird." pete said and joe nodded.
"i better go talk to him." joe said looked at pete and then at patrick and winked and then he left.
"ok you've got to stop winking, no offense but you stink at it." pete said and joe ignored him and kept on walking.
"how was your funeral?" pete asked.
patrick gave him a weird look.
"wow, that was rude. why did i say that out loud?" pete said out loud.
patrick giggled, "it was funerally."
"is that even a real word?" pete chuckled.
"uh no." patrick said.
"okay then. i'm sorry for your loss." pete said.
"thanks."
"well i should let you get back to your book." pete laughed.
"haha yeah."
"did you just say haha out loud?" pete asked.
"yeah."
"ok this day keeps getting weirder and weirder." pete sighed and patrick went back to his book until the bell rang.
