A few weeks passed after Obito's death and just as Rin and Nanami had become extremely close she too perished.
Kakashi had explained everything to Nanami in tears blaming himself for her death. Nanami understood that although she had died by his hand it wasn't his fault.
Obito's and Rin's names had been carved into the K.I.A stone and since, Nanami always visits them and talks to them about her day.
Although she refuses to accept it she has changed drastically over the years.
Minato had become Hokage after Rin's death. Two years later Nanami and Kakashi are now twelve.
She was too overwhelmed by the loss of her friends she made blind decisions and distanced herself from everyone completely.
She had recently become an Anbu against her father's will. Kakashi had joined her on that path becoming one himself although she was much more...reckless. Neither one of them spoke to each other over the years.
It's as if they tried avoiding each other at all costs. They didn't even agree on joining the Anbu together, better yet on the same day.
Nanami was cleaning her room when she heard something fall onto the wooden floor with a loud thud!
She walked around her bed to inspect what had fallen. She approached the item noticing it was a sword.
As she lifted it she closely inspected it. The name 'Hatake' was carved onto the sword's sheath. Realization dawned on her as she remembered it was the sword she had purchased for Kakashi.
Soon the memories of that day filled her head. She quickly pushed them aside as she decided to look for Kakashi and give him his sword.
Walking in the direction she faintly remembered Kakashi's home to be in, she appeared terrifying to the villagers.
She has no longer smiled. Instead she appears to always be angry. And right now she looks like she is going to behead someone.
She climbed the steps that lead to Kakashi's front door and knocked.
After a few seconds he opened, surprised to find Nanami at his front door.
"Hello" he greeted
"Hello" she replied in a hoarse voice slightly flinching at it's sound.
"I came here to give you this" she continued while showing him what she held hoping he'd take it and dismiss her.
"Well come in."
Nanami hesitantly entered and allowed her eyes to wander around his disorganized home.
"My apologise. Excuse the mess."
She simply answered with a slight nod as she introduced the item she held.
"Well this is the gift I had for you years back. I apologize for forgetting about it. I just stumbled upon it after all these years."
"It's fine."
"Well I had decided to get you a sword with a few words engraved onto the blade. Your surname is engraved onto the sheath indicating it's yours, of course."
She handed it over to him as he observed it. He unsheathed it and observed the blade.
"Always here" he mumbled
He looked up at her in question.
"I did it as a reminder. Although time has passed and we have slightly divided, my promise still stands."
"As does mine."
Nanami simply nodded and turned to leave, but stopped at the sound of his voice.
"Nanami I'm worried about you."
"You don't need to be."
"How can I not be when all I have left is acting so careless?! I've lost enough and couldn't keep one of my promises but I'm determined to keep the other!" He practically yelled at her with a strong worried expression in his visible eye.
"I'll be fine." She answered monotonously as she reached for the door.
"No you won't! When are you going to realize it?! Obito and Rin would be very disappointed in you!"
No one had brought up their names since their death and it pained her to once again hear them after so long. With a once again broken heart and tear filled eyes she turned to face Kakashi. She let all her feelings out as she fell to the floor in tears.
Kakashi approached her and pulled her to his chest.
"I'm sorry I shouldn't have said that."
"It's not that. I just.... I just miss them Kakashi. I haven't heard their names in so long and it...it still affects me to realize they aren't here anymore."
She hadn't let anyone see her in tears but for some reason she didn't care about Kakashi seeing her. She just needed someone to comfort her.
He gently kissed the top of her head and rocked back and forth with her in his arms as he repeatedly apologized. Nanami felt safe in his arms. She felt a happiness only he was able to provide.
A year slowly passed and they both turned thirteen. Nanami still tried to avoid him, claiming she was bad luck to the life of others.
She is on a solo Anbu mission and currently having an emotional breakdown.
"Why have I become so stupid?! Kakashi is right I am reckless! Heck I almost died and dad doesn't even know I'm out!""I worry the few people who actually take the time to care about me."
With that in mind she stood up and headed for the village wiping away her tears as she ran.
She made her way to The Hokage's office and knocked before hearing a "come in" and entering.
Once she stood in front of the Hokage she bowed to show respect.
"Ahh Nanami no need to be so formal. Tell me about the mission."
"It was a success, sir, the men will no longer disturb anyone."
"Thank you. Before you leave I must talk to you as well as someone else. Please make yourself comfortable while we await his arrival."
With his permission she seated herself in the comfy couch she'd find herself sleeping in when Hiruzen was Hokage.
She patiently waited in a comfortable silence as a knock was suddenly heard.
